The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Ashok Mohanty, who was the state’s advocate general from 2009 until May of this year, according to reports.
Mohanty was arrested in Cuttack over his alleged link with the Artha Tatwa group, which along with 43 other companies was allegedly involved in a mult-crore chit fund scam.
Other local lawyers, such as the local bar council chairman Manas Ranjan Mohapatra, have criticised the arrest as high-handed and politically motivated, according to The Hindu, with Mohanty denying any wrongdoing.
