Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU Tiruchirappalli) is looking for a new vice chancellor (VC), with the search spearheaded by ex-Supreme Court Justice AK Sikri, ex-Madras high court Justice P Kalaiyarasan, and ex-GNLU Gandhinagar director Dr Bimal Patel.
The requirements for its new VC are rather flexible. Instead of just having a flat 10 years of professorship experience requirement, the committee would apparently also accept 10 years of “experience in a reputed research and/or academic administrative organization with proof of having demonstrated academic leadership”, so long as the candidate has “proven leadership quality” and promote “teaching and research at the highest levels of excellence”.
More details in the application here (or below); the deadline is 28 October.
The selected candidate will succeed outgoing VC Prof Kamala Sankaran.

At NLUD some people will again try and use this lie to push for their candidates. It is important to stand up to this rubbish and argue in favour of Mrinal Satish to be VC (or similar younger applicant).

Kian, have you checked whether CNLU Patna has even started the VC search process? Kamala S will be a contender in NLUD. If GSB loses out he may end up going to RGNUL.
Unless JSP has managed an extension etc, NLU Assam will also need to scout for a new VC. There is a murmur for son/daughter of "the soil" to take over.
NLUs in UK, JK and Sikkim are a long way off. NLU Jodhpur still has time. For now it will be NLUD, TNNLS and CNLU Patna that will be up for grabs.
By the way, why forget Vijendar from MNLU Nagpur? Word is that he may try for NLUD and/or RGNUL (should PJ make a move)
We are all missing Prof Sridhar Acharyalu who recently became the Dean of Bennett Law after VCV went to HNLU Raipur. Prof SA is well known to RS due to their common NALSAR link. Also are we really sure that AD will simply retire from NALSAR and not even consider applying for NLUD or TNNLS? Very likely the former but who knows.
Sudhir also has Sarasu as Registrar who never really left the campus. With so much of "help" can we all stop blaming the old guard and concentrate on whether and how far Sudhir is going to walk the talk. Just because we want the old guard to leave that doesn't mean they will and we all know that the usual suspects aren't the only members of the "old guard".
Even the SBA knew that the fee hike will not be reversed. At best the increase would get staggered. Fee hikes are kinda (to quote Sudhir) inevitable. What we want to know is how our fees have been and will be spent. I want to know why deficits (allegedly caused by sweetheart deals, leaky tenders etc) need to be plugged with our fees while others in the administration make hay.
I do want to look forward. But why is Sudhir avoiding a special audit? Don't ask, don't tell...eh? I really feel for Sarasu. In this version of GoT as well, the Hand will suffer.
1. Jaiswal goes to NLUD
2. Nagaraj goes to RGNUL
3. Kamala Shankaran goes to NLUJ
4. Poonam Saxena goes to CNLU
5. Ved Kumari goes to NLU J&K
6.. Lizzie goes to NLU Sikkim
7. Sridhar Acharyulu goes to NLU Uttarakhand
8. Nandimath goes to Bennett
9. Sairam Bhat goes to NLU Haryana
1) ISB charges 15 to 20 lakhs a year
2) JGLS charges 8 lakhs a year
3) Medical colleges can cost up to a crore.
NLSIU is NOT a charity. Stop whining and go to GLC if you have a problem. Or at least support Sudhir in getting NLSIU designated as an INI funded by the MHRD.
Fee hike is inevitable. What can be done is to minimise its impact (deferrals/delayed payment/scholarships/loans). But a fee hike is the need of the hour. And better audit (both financial AND performance) of sanctioned expenditure. Possibly hold nefarious actors to account.
Like I said, financial accessibility is a concern. But the solution to that is to put in place solid mitigation measures, like easier loans and more scholarships. But the fiscal health of the Law School cannot be compromised. I am not saying that there hasn't been profligacy. But don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Crack down and ensure more responsible spending, audit accounts, reduced corruption (especially in the Estates Department).
The Bond Break fee at Medical Colleges is indeed high. AFMC Pune charges well in excess of 15 lakhs, if you wish to opt out of the mandatory service bond. That's way more than even the proposed fee hike. Further, another argument as to why government medical college fees are low is because they also function as active teaching 'hospitals'. The faculty and (senior) students are actively involved in diagnosis, treatment and even procedures of the general public. A public health service delivery function is being achieved (which the state is expected to do). In Law School, the closest approximation is the Legal Services Clinic (which is not obligatory and merely an ABC). How on earth can you ask the government to subsidise Law School then, beyond a point? There's a reason the IIMs are given the degree of autonomy they have to pursue excellence as they see fit. Law School is also given that, rightly so. The solution is to handhold students so that they are able to better access Law School. To bind the institution down to a mid-2000s fee structure as we enter the 2020s is absurd.
I think its great that Sudhir is on the side of the fee-hike. I hope he displays equal conviction in reviewing how this fiscal stress came about in the first place, including past construction contracts and other suspect expenditure.

As a commentator pointed out that someone was not considered by NLU Patna for this reason. Apparently the same reason was also offered for potential VC candidates in other NLUs as well.
Could you please "source" the notification which sets the criteria for NLUD VC search process?
But we all know that NKC is lying. URC had clearly recommended that NUJS should scale down intake to a max of 105 LLB seats. Both URC and EC have clearly stated that we should steer clear of increased LLB intake unless we first get our faculty and infrastructure right. Those things need to be in place first and then the increase, that too in a phased manner.
So why is NKC in a tearing hurry? Wouldn't it have been more sensible of NKC to reduce the intake, get things in place and then get BCI permission for 180? But NKC has different priorities - he needs to please and flatter his political bosses (principally the AG and Co.) and also return favours.
Here are a couple of things that will unfold over the next few months in NUJS -
1. 180 seats means 60 domicile seats at a minimum. The WB govt will increase the quota to 50%. That means 90. These numbers are hugely useful in election season. In 2020, WB will have numerous municipal elections. That in many ways will signal how 2021 state elections will unfold.
2. NUJS will do a CLATexit - partial or otherwise. This will likely happen in 2021. Doubtful if a change in govt colours will necessarily affect this trajectory. After all a new govt will be under greater pressure to do populist things.
3. NKC will conduct faculty recruitment soon to pack in his loyalists. Some prodigal sons will return now that a new Allfather adorns the chair.
4. NKC will toy with the Registrar position as he needs a loyalist there who is also approved by AG and Co. The latter hate SJA for having "precious' sent into Hyding. They want another SCM to be appointed, preferably "precious". That's the reason AG and Co. kept elongating the Registrar and AO selection processes. If ever these positions went to folks who they cannot control, there will be too many skeletons tumbling out. No wonder PN Sinha Report got buried and PIB allowed to slink away. Surprised why the inquiries are going nowhere?
5. Expect some more amendments in NUJS Act, especially changes in the composition of EC, FC , AC as also tenures of internal EC, AC members. Also expect faces from among the new hires in the EC, AC. Injustice League has no idea how NKC is going to f**k them over. Justice League will be hoping that "precious" will come back to maintain a detente with Injustice League.
6. Adjustments will be made between Justice and Injustice Leagues resulting in the dilution and/or burial of various inquiries, especially the ones relating to faculty recruitment and distance education. This will also help NKC and AG and Co.
7. WB will definitely have another NLU. And yes it will be in North Bengal. The toss up is whether a third NLU can be announced simultaneously or later. Also which model to follow, MNLU or Jabalpur.
There was a reason why they went abroad and stayed put. And with how things went down at NLS, the scenery hasn't changed.
While there was frenzy surrounding Sudhir and now Mrinal for NLUD (with laundry lists flying about), I think someone is missing this guy azimpremjiuniversity.edu.in/SitePages/arun-k-thiruvengadam.aspx
Word is TNNLS has made overtures.

Sondhi was AAG (not AG) at the time. Considering the potential conflict of interest, he promptly recused himself officially and even unofficially/informally. There are countless others at the Karnataka bar who offers invaluable guidance.
Alumni Association is keeping the list of names a closely guarded secret, in the interest of the privacy of the listed individuals. Nothing nefarious about it. In fact, even members of the AA have been denied access to the list, only the Governing Board has it.
By the way, a commentator helpfully stated that Prof Nagraj actually was having a good run at NLUO. But that upset certain powers that be and hence he had to leave. Does this then suggest that FM and now SKDR ensured their comfortable tenures by serving those "interests"?
Isn't this the same Prof Nagraj who got shorted by short dresses at NLS?
It is for students, SJA, faulty to act on the information. Nothing new has been suggested or hinted. I really don't want to be proved right. Gives me no pleasure as it would only confirm that NUJS is nearing terminal velocity in its free fall.
Assuming without admitting that whatever "rubbish" was spewed was simply rumour mongering, can you produce evidence that NKC, AG and Co etc are not doing anything dirty or better still that you can make them fall in line should they go "astray"?
Why get so upset by "rumours"? If I am a charlatan, does NUJS or anyone really suffer any tangible harm?
No one did or could do a thing when NKC was imposed on us; diluted actions against his acolytes; ensured questionable promotions; signed off questionable utilization certificates; soft-pedaled inquiries etc. Do you fear that my "rumours" could upset the apple cart, finally....because they are true? Are you nervous because you fear there is an unidentified "mole" or people have begun reading your clique better?
Saffron keyboard warriors, stop this free boarding. NUJS can do without your dose of politicization. Your Law Minister has categorically snubbed INI status for NLUs and has no current plans or finances to stave off state interference. If TMC is hollowing out institutions here, your party is doing it elsewhere.
If you really want to help there is enough publicly available material for your "leaders" (including those in the laundry list that you keep circulating) to take up seriously. And please don't rattle off the names of Bar seniors here, including former AGs. Someone had rightly commented on their limitations and that hasn't changed.
1. You are asking people to provide evidence of a negative? I mean, is that possible?
2. You made several assertions about activities of the current VC with an air of authority. It makes those assertions appear as proven and established facts. They may be even so, I've little idea, but that's not backed by any proof on your part either, right? Failing that, those are just allegations on your part, not facts. May well be eventually proved as facts, mind you. But hasn't been till date.
You know things are not right when for every BimPa there is a BC www.legallyindia.com/lawschools/after-rmlnlu-death-allahabad-hc-condemns-admin-for-never-ending-trial-of-late-student-20121221-3335
Feel free to interpret BC. I mean the man and his actions.
