Former Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) executive director Usha Narayanan, who had served with the regulator for 21 years and had joined what-was-then Amarchand Mangaldas in 2012 as an of counsel Mumbai, has passed away at age 65 after a battle with cancer.
She had worked in the financial services industry for 35 years, leading SEBI’s corporate finance department, before retiring and joining what-is-now Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas.
She was a Mumbai University law graduate, held a masters in business laws from NLSIU Bangalore and a post-graduate in Economics from Mumbai University.
She had also been a member of a number of high-profile public committees on policy.
Managing partner Cyril Shroff commented: “Usha Narayanan was a stalwart of securities market laws and practice. And one of the original pillars of good governance.
“We will miss her very much as will the securities market practitioners.
“Our deepest condolences to her family.”
A former colleague added that she was a very nice and highly respected practitioner.
