Platinum Partners to break in two: NDA’s Ruchir Sinha to start Mumbai for Touchstone • Quillon to launch in Bangalore

New brand names for both halves, to continue running as going concerns

Platinum: Not forever
Platinum: Not forever

Platinum Partners is set to separate along geographical lines, with the Mumbai and Delhi office each rebranding from 1 November 2020 under new banners.

The Delhi and Bengaluru offices are headed up by partner Karam Daulet-Singh and have around 5 partners, who make up around 30 fee-earners. Of those, one partner and 5 fee-earners are based in a Bengaluru office.

This partnership will be called Touchstone Partners, and it will start a new Mumbai office by hiring Nishith Desai Associates (NDA) leader Ruchir Sinha as a partner.

The Mumbai office, which is headed up by partner Ankit Majmudar, has up to 30 fee-earners, including around 6 partners.

This Mumbai partnership under Majmudar will rebrand to Quillon Partners.

Update 22:25: NDA managing partner Nishith Desai said: “We had wonderful time together. Even now we are strongly bonded and are a having laughing time. We express our gratitude to him for training and mentoring a battery of law leaders to succeed him in the true NDA culture and tradition. Indeed, I wish him the best and confer my blessings.”

Both new managing partners confirmed their separation with similar comments about the future.

Daulet-Singh commented:

The New Delhi office and the Bangalore office of Platinum Partners are parting ways with Mumbai. It is happening effective 1 November and the Platinum Partners brand will indeed be retired on 1 November.

We, and I speak for New Delhi and Bangalore, will be rebranding ourselves and we are calling ourselves Touchstone Partners.

Ruchir Sinha will be joining us and will head our Mumbai office.

Majmudar commented:

After many years together, the Mumbai offices of Platinum Partners and the Delhi / Bangalore office of Platinum Partners will be parting ways.

We have all collectively decided to retire the Platinum Partners brand from 1 November.

The Mumbai office will be rebranding as Quillon Partners and will be launching its Bangalore office and will remain present in Delhi.

The death of the Platinum Partners brand name will presumably avoid any protracted separation discussions and negotiations (such as those that are going on at L&L Partners right now), which will let both new firms hit the ground running.

Another advantage: each geographical location (Mumbai, and the Delhi-Bengaluru region) were in any case administered and run as separate partnerships.

Update 30 October, 10:02: In response to a comment below, Daulet-Singh commented: “The Reema Ray Scholarship has always been and will continue to remain our initiative.”
