HSA disputes team under Abeezar Faizullabhoy, with 2 partners, migrates to Argus

Disputes team of 6 lawyers, headed by Faizullabhoy, moves from HSA to Argus

Argus Partners has hired HSA Advocates Mumbai-based senior partner Abeezar E Faizullabhoy and his team of two associate partners Shahen Pradhan and Murtaza Kachwalla, as well as three associates.

Faizullabhoy will be joining Argus as senior partner, while Pradhan and Kachwalla are getting the partner tag.

“Given the immense opportunity that the legal market offers, I look forward to being part of the ambitious plans of Argus Partners and being part of the journey that will take Argus Partners to greater heights,” said Faizullabhoy in a statement.

The team specialises in disputes, which would bolster Argus’ practice that has been “ably navigated” to-date by Ranjit Shetty in the city, according to managing partner Krishnava Dutt. "Disputes as a practice area has also been growing significantly with India becoming the choice for the seat of arbitration in a large majority of investment agreements and other cross border contracts.”

Faizullabhoy’s hire would also benefit the firm’s existing insolvency practice.

The team also includes senior associates Prateek Katewa and Aashdin Chivalwala, and associate Karishma Motla.

Faizullabhoy had joined HSA in 2014 from Chennai-based ultra-mega power project, Aditya Resources DMCC, where he was chief executive officer. In 2013, he had joined the company, which had been his client while an equity partner at J Sagar Associates (JSA).

He had been at JSA for 12 years.

Pradhan had come with Faizullabhoy to HSA from JSA, after having worked with a number of senior counsel, while Kachwalla had joined HSA in 2014 from ALMT Legal, as a senior associate, having begun his career as an associate in 2010 as Mulla & Mulla.

HSA founding partner Hemant Sahai commented: "I wish him all the best in his endeavours. I value his contributions to HSA and we will continue to remain friends and mutual well wishers.”
