Posted it earlier, didn't get much response so posting it again https://www.legallyindia.com/convos/topic/305264-Does-work-experience-in-your-dad-s-practice-count-

I am a CS LLB, class of 2021, graduated from a respectable tier-2 college. I tried getting into corp law. No firm would take me since I had no work experience. Meanwhile I joined my dad he is a lawyer who is specialises in Indirect tax litigation. (Sales tax and now GST, a little bit of service tax as well). That being said, he has a 30% odd percent silo of compliance/return filing work as well. I have been with him for 1.5-2 odd years now, I've realised that he is not really interested in continuing work and he's kinda like doing it for my sake. I want to join some law firm in Delhi, Calcutta or Bombay etc. In their indirect tax team. I have gained a lot of drafting and compliance experience after working with my dad. My questions are:-

1. Will the law firms consider my work experience that I have with my dad.

2. That being said, is it a good time to switch now?
yes (for both), firms doesn't look for whose office you worked rather knowledge. he is your father at home but professionally your boss (employer) and you are employee who are working, taking responsibilities etc same as other employees. so exprnce count, put into cv and apply. high chance you will get it. I HAVE SEEN, HIRING OF MANY LAWYER VIA THIS WAY AND FIRM DIDN'T TAKE INTEREST IN KNOWING WHETHER HE/SHE (EMPLOYER) RELATES RATHER JUDGE THEIR EXPERIENCE.

GO FOR IT, BEST OF LUCK (i am too that same kid working at T2-2019 batch)
