This is the real face of TMC supporters. Rank opportunists who will jump ship and go saffron if it suits them. Already, their influencers online are shifting loyalties. Just wait and see: all their supporters at NUJS will do the same and hang on to their seats in the governing bodies.
Then again Bose family is overrated and playing victim has been their hallmark. Bahut hua samman
Coming to the implications for the legal world, this means that everyone associated with the TMC is now persona non grata. Whether it's the board of NUJS of the board of the WB Bar Council, there will be a total purge.
Nandimath deliberately stayed away all this while. Now he will be active and become a BJP supporter, knowing that it may bring him gains like VC-ship of NLUD or GNLU.
In an interview with you in January 2026, I highlighted the "pervasive rot" in West Bengal under Trinamool rule. I noted that "Mamata Banerjee is a deeply discredited figure in the state" and that "her nephew commands no currency beyond unlimited cash in hand and hired goon squads." I nonetheless said that at that time (January), Trinamool had a "definite edge" over the BJP due to the BJP's own limitations in waging a successful state-level campaign in West Bengal. Those limitations notwithstanding, it turned out that Mamata Banerjee's unlimited licence to limitless corruption during her 15-year reign, which made the Trinamool Congress into an organised-crime racket akin to the Cosa Nostra (Sicilian Mafia), her arrogance of power which grew unbearable over time, and her sponsorship of the very dubious nephew as a dynastic successor, combined into an overwhelming liability. The BJP has reaped the dividends of the popular backlash.

Adding to the Cosa Nostra analogy, the Italian mafia has survived on with links with businessmen, lawyers and even certain judges. Read this news article, about 16 judges in Italy arrested for links with the mafia.

So what you will see in Bengal is the collapse of a wide network with tentacles in civil society. And NUJS will be affected because some of these tentacles reach here.
Folks on LI: Saar what does this mean for lawyers and law firms in India?
Mark my words.
Mamata Banerji, like Hitler, was a demagogue, who came to power by shouting and screaming. She has nothing in her head, and has no clue how to solve the massive socio-economic problems of West Bengal. She was very arrogant, and could brook no criticism. She got Prof Ambikesh Mahapatra of Jadavpur University arrested just because he shared a cartoon of her on the social media, and she got a farmer Siladitya Choudhari arrested just because he said in an open meeting that she had done nothing for farmers. She built an army of goons, like Hitler's SS, which she used to terrorize people. Corruption and crime was at its peak under her rule. She criticised dynastic politics, but she appointed her nephew Abhishek Banerji national general secretary of TMC and MP, thus practically anointing him as her successor. By constantly appeasing the 28% Muslims of West Bengal, she antagonised the 71% Hindus, who largely voted against her. West Bengal is well rid of this idiot

These people are not rightists or leftists, they are SELF-ists.
Sorry, we don't want anything to do with her.
- MG: Not getting a Rajya Sabha seat for her second term, since seats for the TMC will be scarce and they will probably give it to people from Bengal and mass leaders. Her only realistic option (if she wishes for a second term) is to switch to the Congress.
- NUJS: GC and EC dominated by TMC ministers, MPs, MLAs and various TMC sympathisers. All out. Complete whitewash. Replaced by BJP ecosystem.
