I have interned in multiple firms and have now worked in Tier 1 firms for more than a decade. The brand of the firm is not always representative of the team's work culture. Within the same firm, you could have nicer teams and teams that have horrible work culture. My go-to tip would be to pick the team (if you have the ability to exercise a choice).
I understand if you don't feel like working/ interning with other tier 1 firms but please don't get discouraged on the basis of this experience. Majority of people who have become successful in tier 1 firms, have had humble beginnings and also come from middle class backgrounds and tier 2/3 cities.

Also, people started shipping me with a male associate who frequently assigned me work. I overheard some seniors even tell this guy and I quote, "enjoy, till she is here". On top of that things like 'oh wow, you're so diligent' (sarcastically) Other women (middle class or not), please tell me this isn't normal, because if it is I want to quit.
P.S: And yes this is a T-1 firm. One of those hallowed places that people die to work at.
