Not at all , Ford India has always been pretty unsubstantial with its high end models , and they have always disappointed , so have other companies like Hyundai , Toyota etc. , only German automakers gave Indians a chance to own sports cars ( and the gamble payed off since they are the only ones with a half-decent reputation for sports cars ) , also no chance they are releasing the newer Mustang on Indian roads even in the coming next 5 years , so it wouldn't be in the best interests to do so .

You must be sound enough to do some reverse calculations right ? Do it . The problem with German cars in India is that 1. the roads are not good enough ( yes even so-called Prime Delhi roads are supremely bad and deserve to be called out ) 2. Going for sedans in today's India where all forms of infrastructure are made with keeping at least a hatchback SUV in mind can be a bad idea 3. These cars have heavy depreciation so if you're thinking that this is some sort of a good financial decision then it's not , it's a personal decision and its entirely okay to sometimes make better personal decisions over financial goals albeit if you're able to do so . You're in your 20s and having a sports car in 20s is something that can triumph monetary heuristics , only one thing though 'buy a sports car of he budget you can be ready to pay at least 1.5 x for' , that is if your car comes 80L ( complete price , Ex Showroom + RTO registration plus Taxes and tailored options ) then you must have ability to afford a 1.2 cr. car at the least , you get it ? if not , open excel and go through standard inflation and depreciation numbers to see if you can 'still' buy the cars 2-3 years later and if you can , it would be a better decision than going for it now , why limit at M3 then ? Why not go for a better suited model post 3 years when you have a better idea of what you want and also have substantial amounts of liquid cash ( cash + cash equivalents , includes short-liquidity options such as MF , SIP , Stocks etc. ) .

Also , a better idea would be to go to a local club of sports cars owners ( Bombay , Delhi , Madras , Cal , all have these clubs ) and ask them about some stuff ( most would be ready to answer ) , they also have maintenance helps they give out to their fellow members so that you're not at a major hassle with repair costs ( these cars have tons of features to play around with , probably more than one needs sometimes , but all of them come at a cost and the ability to repair is something you MUST take into account , include it as a variable in your excel model ) .

Lest , go to your CA and ask them prepare a basic excel model for you and look out for popular finance options , do ask for them to create at least 5 templates so that you can optimize your decision .

Just do it. No point saving and giving your money to the govt in taxes. Just fuck middle class expectations of saving, get married, having kids etc. Prioritise living your own life and enjoying luxuries: the best cars, the best watches, the best wines etc. Take a loan if you have too. YOLO and you don’t even know if you will die young, at the rate at which young people are dying prematurely today. So enjoy life!

With these type of purchases, I feel nice having a shiny new toy for a week or a month and then buyer's remorse sets in. Like I brought a PS5 in 2024 Diwali sale and played religiously till December. Haven't logged in even once since.

I suggest rent one for a week and see how it changes your life and matches your expectations overall.

I’ve recently been promoted to SA2 at a Tier 1 firm and expect to make around 45-50+ LPA. I currently drive a Tata Safari (about a year old) and have savings and investments of around 40L.

It’s always been a dream of mine to own a proper sports car, and I’m seriously considering buying a BMW M340i, which costs about 80L on-road. Financially, I can make it work — the EMI would be around 50–60K, which is manageable on my current income. My parents are retired Grade A civil servants and are financially stable, so I don’t have any family obligations or dependencies and may get a decent inheritance given I am the only child.

That said, I’m aware this kind of lifestyle upgrade comes with long-term implications. Right now, I have the freedom to walk away from my corporate job if things get too stressful, mainly because I have no liabilities. Taking on this EMI would change that dynamic — not drastically, but it would tie me down to some extent.

I’m conflicted between sticking to the “financial wisdom” of avoiding lifestyle inflation vs. going for something that has been a lifelong dream. Realistically, I’ll probably earn more over the years, but I also know I won’t be in my 20s forever — this is probably the only time a sports car will actually feel as fun as I imagine it to be.

So I’m wondering: for others in the profession or in a similar life stage, what would you do? Would you stay the course or get the dream car?
