It would be so easy for trolls to continue softly trolling if they just made a bona fide attempt to explain their world view / bigotry and allow genuine discussion and criticism of their views, but it appears this is too much to wish for.
From these reports, it appeas not at all clear that this was a religiously motivated attack. From HT:

The point is not that it was or was not Muslims that ragged and beat up a fellow student.
The point is that you literally ONLY posted this thread BECAUSE they were Muslims, and wouldn't have cared if it was Hindu students ragging others for not chanting Jai Shri Ram (and if it does come up, you would not call or equate them with fundamentalists, or dismiss / excuse them as 'fringe' elements, correct?).
In a similar vein to your facetious argument, you could demonise and generalise other communities and say "Gandhi did not kill himself but a Hindu did", "Indira Gandhi was murdered not by Christians but by Sikhs", "Rohingya did not get murdered by Muslims but by Buddhists", "US high school students do not get shot by wokes but by incels", or, since we're in ridiculous internet-hate-speech territory here, might as well include some references to Nazi Germany.
Equating cow vigilantism to say that ragging of some college student by ▮▮▮ guys is nothing worse is pretty low even by your cheap, biased standards of moderation. If anything this is even more pathetic since most cow vigilantes are uneducated rural folk who lack general awareness while these ▮▮▮ guys are actually studying in some higher education institution and still stooping to threats and intimidation as a way of "payback".
Stop this censorship and acknowledge that there is a problem with Islamic fundamentalism in the world and in India. The Bamiyan Buddhas and World Trade Centre did not blow up by themselves. The Yazidi genocide was not carried out by Scientologists.
Stop your whataboutery and saying "What about Muslims being attacked by non-Muslims" everytime this comes up. That's like a doctor examining a patient's genitals when he comes in with a toothache.

Stop trolling until more facts are available. And even though Hyderabad does not have a BJP government, if there's a case it's unlikely the police will sweep this under the carpet, unless the alleged accused are related to politicians or something...
[Mod addendum]: This post's headline has been edited after further reports emerged, casting doubt on this as an attack with obvious religious motiviation from one community, but more likely as an incident of alleged violent ragging at college the full motives of which are unclear at present.
