You find likeminded people. You can easily find 2bhks for 7-10k in and around Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, IP Extension, Laxmi Nagar area [I am not referring to Apartment complexes. Go for builder flats]. Share it with at least 3 other people. have the simplest food. You will find a lot of people preparing for CS, Judiciary etc. in the region.
Rent - 2k
Food - 2.5k for 3 meals (you will get dabba walas in the area) [or you guys cook amongst yourself].
Tea / Coffee - 300
Travel - 1.5k [Take a DTC Bus pass. you can travel in AC buses too. Don't use metro / auto. Walk / bus.]
Electricity - Thanks to kejriwal, you may not have to pay anything.
Soaps, deodarants, shoe polish, Water, phone bill etc. - 700
Save 3k for emergencies. Don't spend a penny elsewhere. Look for advocates / jobs which will pay higher, and make a switch ASAP. Spend as much time as possible in Court. Start appearing for misc. matters for other lawyers and clients. Read as much as you can. Take tuition classes on weekends. Take classes online if local students are not available.
Use office stationary and office amenities (books, internet etc.) for EVERYTHING.
Lakhs of families live in Delhi for a budget much less than 5k per person. These are decent localities (ones mentioned in Para 1). You will get edible food. If you can, try having lunch at office's expense. Do whatever you can at office's expense.
If your office has sufficient stationary, help your roommates with basic stuff. they will always extend favors and share snacks. Develop yourself. There are endless opportunities in Delhi. You just need to have the patience to ride the hard waves out.
