The recent news regarding the pron MMS scandal of two JNU students who used to stay at the Co-Ed hostel has left the prestigious institution in shock. A High Resolution video was made while they were making love in the hostel. It has been a great setback on the reputation of the University who has been known for its quality.Well, it has been argued by youth of this country that we are free to do what we want as we have crossed the age of 18 and no one has any kind of right to stop us from doing that. The matter here is not only of the scandal but also of the Co-Ed hostels which are present in various institutions throughout the country.
It is very hard for someone to think of staying in Co-Ed in Indian Society not because they are not permitted to do so but because it is not yet accepted by the society. And when this kind of scams happens, it gives a chance to the persons who are already against it to protest against the validity of these hostels. It has been the mindset of the society that Co-Ed hostel are morally wrong as it would increase the cases of sex in these hostels. If you are a well aware person, they you can not deny this fact. The point is on what basis are these hostels been created ? It is very nice to be liberal but it doesn't been one can do the activities which considered to be morally wrong. Now, one can argue that morally wrong has no relation with the rights which one person has got after attaining the age of 18. Yes, in fact he is correct by saying that but it everything which is legal not necessarily be accepted by the society.
Parents think a lot before sending their child to study at a far place. They are afraid of the wrong activities in which their child could get into, and this kind of news would make them more worried. Sex is not the matter in this case, because it is the personal choice of the individuals after attaining the age of 18 because most of you might be thinking of this article being against that. But that is not the case, it is their personal choice and persons above 18 years are considered to be matured enough for taking that decision, although it has also been criticized by the society. But what is the point I want to argue is that what is the need of these kind of hostels ? Don't college have enough space for constructing hostels. That can not be an excuse and these hostels should be avoided, although it is not possible to ban them because it would again be against certain rights. Rights must be accompanied by the responsibility.
There was a similar issue to this which was made legally by the Bombay High Court i.e. Live-in Relationship, where two persons stay as a couple without being legally married to each other. And I think everyone must be aware as to how this decision was criticized by several persons and although, it has been made legal but the society has not accepted it and it would be hard for them to accept it in near future also.
Everyone can have his viewpoint over this matter and it would be great if you can express it here.

if they were of age, sex is good. being videotaped is embarrassing, but not fatal. the public has a short memory.
as for 'the validity of co-ed hostels', what does 'validity' mean? there's no reason they shouldn't exist. do college administrators ever check for homosexuality while admitting girls to a ladies' hostel?
the quality of education provided at an institution and the quantum of/access to sex you can have there have nothing to do with each other.
its an isolated incident & just 1 such incident should'nt let people question the validity of co-ed hostel as theres no guarantee that in a single gender hostel there arent people having sex. Besides I dont get it why do people view having sex wrong as the couple were having sex in a private domain i.e in the rooms but just coz the MMS has been leaked people are creating hula-boo over it.
It has bring a bad name to the jnu pple.Though its a first incident which has gained so much publicity there may be many other such kind of incidents happening every day in other places of the country but becoz of fear or other suppressions thy r kept secretive thus putting a question mark on the validity of co-ed hostels. Many of my friends reading this will be of the opinion tht " ooh man we r living in a globalised n so called modernisation" . My answer to them is if ths is wat u called modernisation then adopt all other foreign policies n gt tht implemented in india.
The whole world is moving forward then why are indians concentrating on stupid matters of sex. Let people have sex it is their personal choice to videotape it or not ( all i mean is let people make their own choices who are you to enforce your view on someone).so just back off people and go find yourself some better work than just criticizing.
hahaah ooh man jst shut the nonsense if u thnk tht its trendy n cool to videotape it...thn fine ok. But y its being sold in the market???Thy shld be punished so harshly tht nxt 1 shld thnk twice bfore thnking of doing ny immoral act like ths is. The people like the above person will nt be affected whatever the consequence it can bring to the country,to the institution etc.Its india n we have a cultural society...no matter how much we gt modernised.
The MMS was allegedly shot by some students from the School of Language Studies and the girl is spotted in the video was also a student from the same department. Another accused is from Computer Science.
Some media reports claimed that the two accused students initially tried to extort money from the girl in the video but when they failed, the culprits put the video out on mobile phones, on the internet and even sold it as a CD in the blue film market. if ths is wat u cal a chill pill thn i m afraid hw many other institution r in the same line.
How does this affect the prestige of the institution? I can't fathom this correlation of the students' personal lives with the quality of the university. These are two distinct domains, and ought to be treated so.
Why are you so scared of sex like it's some crime?..."co-ed hostels lead to sex..." If society however thinks that way, doesn't mean that you do too...
There's a need to change the mentality that just because two ppl have sex outside of a marriage or a relationship doesn't mean that they are not good people, or that they are inefficient etc. Doesn't mean a bad name to anyone...shrug
Sex is a necessity of body like food. sex is natural. If two mature person do sex with their free consent in private place without disturbing the public and society then this should not be deemed as wrong. But sex in public place affecting the morality and sanctity of the society is a crime and should be prevented and punished
its nt the first incident.... a lot many do happn in the hostels in delhi spcially boy's hostel whr gals can enter.... so no point talking abt it. sex sells thts d only matter.... thr r many other things to cry for but not this.... jnu is a pg university, studnt in thr are all sound and major, leav them
i don't think its because of the co-ed institute that all this MMS scam is happenin.it is totally the fault of those students who leaked it out.they should be punished coz its a law not to interupt the privacy of anyone.and to defame sumone.
we ppl can help only by not makin a big issue out of it.let the court and the university decide what punishment those ppl(the ones who leaked the video) should get
Sex is a basic human need. Humans have sex. They are supposed to have sex.
Parents who feel the need to stop their kids(?) from having sex have to understand that they are simply distancing themselves from their kids by trying to restrict them from having sex. They're going to do it and if you can't face facts, they'll lie to you. Teach them about relationships and how to nurture them and they might come to you to talk about their lives rather than hide it from you.
This generation has already moved beyond a point where kids were controlled by their parents even after marriage. Parents, teach your kids right and wrong in their childhood and they will have a healthy normal life rather than trying to control their entire life under bullshit pretexts like 'Indian Principles' and 'Indian Culture'. It's time for the parents to grow up.
