NLU Jodhpur has extended its lead in the Mooting Premier League (MPL) 6 sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills after winning 30 points at the Vis Vienna moot that saw strong Indian performances.
Palhkivala tax moot
The team from RGNUL comprising of Ashutosh Mishra, Srishti Bose and Vrinda Pareek emerged as the winners at the 11th Nani Palkhivala Tax Moot Court Competition, 2015 organized by School of Law, Sashtra University defeating ILS Pune. ILS was represented by Jyothi R, Kumar Sambhav and Karan Singh.
The moot was inaugurated by Gopal Subramanium, senior advocate (former Solicitor General of India).
A total of 24 teams across India had participated in the moot.
The finals of the moot competition was judged by Lakshmikumaran, Justice Goda Raghuram (president CESTAT), Justice Durga Rao (judicial member ITAT, Chennai) and N.Venkatraman, senior advocate.
Ashutosh Mishra, who was part of the winning team from RGNUL commented, “From the time I started mooting which was just last semester I came to know that Nani Palkhivala is one of the toughest moots in the country and it was a tax moot which made it more difficult to crack. This time the host was SASTRA University and never did they made me feel that this was not the best moot court competitions in the country.”
“The judges were experts in taxation and from the preliminary rounds till the finals did we feel that it was just a moot. It felt like arguing before real court rooms before tax professionals and they made us feel the same. No complaints regarding the judging standards at all. Even if we would have lost, there is no way we could have blamed the judges.”
“We came across all the odds and it feels really nice to see the hard work pay off. From being novice to something in tax, it had been a roller coaster journey. We had fights, disagreements but we came all through that to become a good team and good friends. Also, I think this is one of the best achievements of our university in the mooting arena and it makes us feel really special to make the university proud. We definitely owe the university one especially our Vice chancellor, Registrar amd the moot court committee for providing us with this opportunity.”
Siddartha Iyer of HNLU, Raipur got the best speaker award while the best memorial award went to the winners of the competition. The best researcher award went to Monica Kasturi of SLS Pune at the tier 4 competition.
The two semi- finalists were Symbiosis Law School, Pune and Campus Law Center, Delhi.

See table: "ELSA Asia Qualifiers (Winner) T5=10"
Also, NLU = third best memorial = 10 points
However, not updated since Kian's favoured suck-up knocked out in the preliminaries; while second favoured suck-ups (NLU-D) didn't make it.
