So they basically want a quota in places like BITS Pilani, Manipal, ISB, Ashoka, Jindal, Symbiosis, SP Jain etc.

Two obvious questions here:

1. Is it constitutionally valid to impose such a quota?

2. If an SC/ST/OBC candidate enters ISB or Jindal through quota, he or she will still have to pay the fees. If such a candidate can afford to pay 50 lakhs as fee, can he or she be considered backward? πŸ€”
I remember my constitutional law professor saying that it IS constitutionally permissible to have caste quotas in private universities and also private companies like Tata, Microsoft etc. That’s because all employment is subject to the state and India is a socialist republic as per the amended preamble. So the answer is YES and Rahul ji is right to propose this. A quota is very much needed because the number of PSU jobs is shrinking with disinvestment. SC/ST/OBC people can no longer seek employment in Air India as a matter of right.

I feel we can start with a 30% SC/ST/OBC quota in universities and private companies, which can be hiked to 50% by 2030. Upper castes will not at all be disadvantaged because there are plenty of seats and jobs in the private sector to go around. Also, let us remember that many upper castes go abroad and work for for IT companies, where there is no reservation, so they can continue to do that. There are enough jobs for everyone.
How about first get a census survey done to actually see who needs the reservations and who don't.
This thread is really scary

because it shows how many people have been brainwashed to think that reservation in private sector is sustainable or good

Dude, the economy will tank. Look at every country that has reservation in the private sector. Entire economies tanked everytime in history this was done.

The rich and talented will just find another country, you will be left in shit if you need reservation in pvt sector to find work

Redistribution works only if there is enough value produced, and systems that ignore merit does not produce much that can be redistributed

Even resource rich countries like venezuela and aouth africa failed to pull it off, India stands zero chance of surviving private sector caste quotas

You have a job, you are doing well in capitalist India, you have a future. Don't screw it up.
India isn't capitalist, it is crony capitalist at this point. There is a huge difference.
nonsense

go start a business, nobody will stop you

you won't because you are a loser, instead will keep asking for reservation is private sector hoping that will give you nirvana :D
Nobody will stop me? Goes to show that you don't have the foggiest idea. I've to grease a thousand palms, the tenders will be rigged in favour of the bigshots who have friends in high places, the bank won't condone the smallest delay while writing off crores of the cronies. That's the reason India doesn't attract FD despite all the fanfare about achhe din.
hahahaha clearly shows you never did any business just believe a narrative

go talk to someone who actually runs a business
If you think current form of capitalism which is making India grow at 8% per year, made India the fastest growing large economy in the world, and pulled out 250 million people out of poverty in last 10 years is bad (and crony whatever)

try shifting to South Africa, which has equity based capitalism - the dream country of woke liberals - where resources are redistributed based on race

How about that
If we extrapolate the Bihar caste census (done in 2023), for the rest of India, General caste population, including the Muslim Upper caste is total 15%. Yes, total 15%.

63% are OBC

- 27% are dominant OBC (mainly the dominant OBCs like Yadavs in Bihar or Gowda in Karnataka)

- 36% are EBC ( Extremely backward Castes - a OBC sub category)

19% are SC, rest are ST. ST population is very less in Bihar, so these numbers.

But, overall these approximate numbers would hold true for India - 15% general, 60% OBC, 19% SC and 5-6% Tribals.

So, you are way off, my friend. And General category is extremely disadvantaged in a numbers based democracy.
Ask the government to do a caste census and then give reservations according to population percentage then.
Constitution never promised Hindi language supremacy either. The present government is still doing its best to achieve that.
Bro, India is in recession. There's inflation going around. Firms have freezed their hiring policies. Stop your kamandal nonsense.
What about General Category people

Employment is an issue for them as well
Read about the Kapoori formula, and do tell me what is the meaning of Jeetni aabadi, utna haq? And how much aabadi General Castes actually have in India, ergo, how much seats according to this formula, they should really have in proportion to their population.
Congress has ensured no upper caste person ever votes for them. BJP is even getting OBC,SC votes.

With Muslim votes alone it's hard to win.
Privatisation is the only real solution to reservation. I dont think any politician will ever openly oppose reservation. With BJP, at least we know they're giving everything in private hands and not creating any new PSEs at the same time.
The fact that the Congress still does not get it is just hilarious. The days of gareebi hatao are dead and buried; they must stop peddling these tired shibboleths if they want to have any chance of winning the national elections.
Of course. They should just take money from the ameers and help them become more ameer.
If you could read some credible news and go through the statistics you would laugh at your own comment xD
All statistics clearly indicate that the poor are becoming poorer in the country and the rich are becoming richer. One study says that the divide between rich and poor is worse than what it was during the colonial times. top 10% has more wealth than half the population, more than 22lakh people have gone below the poverty line after 2014, we have the highest number of malnourished children in the world (we have surpassed Africa), our per capita income is worse than Bangladesh, we're in the lowest ranking in the hunger index.
Maybe you should come out of your bubble sometimes and face the reality.
Rich is becoming richer is fine as long as poor is becoming richer

And yes, poor is coming out of poverty

That is the way
really hoping that general category people unanimously vote against INC in every state. Just the way muslims vote against BJP everywhere. Fear of losing the entire general category vote-bank will at least discourage rahul gandhi from indulging in such shit.
General category with merit don't have anything to fear from reservation norms. I belong to general category myself and have never begrudged any reserved category candidate for the affirmative action that they are entitled to because of decades of oppression.
cool bro, general category with merit. didnt you realise that reservations at 60% are eating into your chances of securing a seat????????
Which state has got all the reserved category inhabitants leading better lives than GCs?
Kerala, where as SC group as managed to elevate itself into OBC category, while growing more powerful than UCs, redistributing their land and getting the most representation and media clout
Who said UCs live the worst lifestyle? Does that mean you admit that OBC having power and political clout will eventually cause UCs to have worse lifestyle?
Vote against INC for whom? Bhajipao also doesn't give a darn about GCs. And red and blue parties are made to give BJs to reserved ones
12 downvotes on truth of congress party

Lol

All ashoka, jindal university students should start travelling around in ground to know realities. People are not dumb enough to vote a guy who after losing elections goes to foreign trips and then comes back to give freebies more than centre

stating truth and calling for removal of incompetent leaders brings 19 downvotes lol
Absolutely. The voting pattern on LI shows that Gen Z NLU/Jindal students (the majority demographic of LI) are heavily, heavily leftist. One comment praising Mao (in the thread about 3 Body Problem) has lots of upvotes. This man was one of the world’s most vile dictators yet our elite students are simping for him. What to say? πŸ˜”
That's because the reality under capitalist control is reprehensible.
True, but I wouldn’t worry too much. It’s just a fad for them. Stanning BTS, stanning Rahul Gandhi: same thing. They will grow out of it when they join law firms. Shehla Rashid redux.
Social backwardness is not directly proportional to economic backwardness. An economically sound person from an oppressed community could/ would still get to face the consequences of casteism in the society. Discrimination on the basis of caste doesn't stop merely because one has money, there are multiple examples of people from oppressed communities facing casteism even after having enough money. Read more on caste and try to understand how it actually works.
Wow, talk about normalising discrimination! People do it, hence it must be right! Please stop talking about your merit if you come up with such arguments.
You don't have merit. You have privilege. Give up your generational wealth and privilege and study in the same schools and grow up in the same conditions as the reserved people first and then think about level playing field.
oh please now. Most of the reserved category students that make it to top institutes are just as privileged, if not more. As someone in a T-1 NLU, we have children of top civil servants getting in through reservations. The truth is that the current scheme of reservation(not reservation itself) is a sham, because only the priviliged and undeserving part of the reserved category communities benefit off it. Never would you find a SC fellow from rural India, educated from a govt school and unable to afford any coaching, making it to a NLU or IIT. They're exactly the ones whom reservation should cater but the ugly truth is that it is always the incompetent lazy urban kids that misuse the system.
So nice. Go anecdotal and imaginative when you lack any reliable data. Such meritorious of you!
Not sure there's any data measuring the average annual income of students availing reservation. I never disregarded reservation itself, but I am ferociously against the incompetent creamy layer who eat up the seats and do not let deserving ones avail it. Also, there is nothing anecdotal about what I said. Walk into any govt institute and you'd familiarise yourself with the truth.
If there's no data, then refrain from drawing conclusions. That's how logic works.
Yes yes i believe Jat, Yadav, Kurmi, Patel,Gujjar, Vanniyar, Thevar dont have intergenerational privelege.

You harp so much on reservation why doesnt your stock talk about rohini commission report and sub classification.
Why don't you keep talking about it? Why will I have to talk about everything that I want to talk about as well as what you want to talk about?
Oh my innocent child, if you think people are gonna give up reservations even if govt takes their ancestral properties and redistribute it then you are dead wrong.

Kerala is example of this
They "created" it by exploiting the labour of those who are entitled to reservations today.
No. They fought wars fair and square. No one handed anything on platter.
This is my perspective. The problem with all this reservation, handout, subsidy thing is - Yeh mera adhikar hai feeling. Once you give it people deem it their right and never want it returned. Hence, I am also against giving women any reservation (NLS has horizontal female reservation) or free bus subsidies for women.

I know students who would never get into IIT, got into IIT Dhanbad on SC reservation, and now preparing for other govt. exams to again use SC reservation. If an IIT degree cannot uplift you, I do not understand what can. Now people will come here, cry - you have oppressed for 1000y (yes, like my ancestors were ruling Delhi from the last 1000y and I personally sat and oppressed your lot), this is our right etc. The problem is still not this.

The problem is when you talk to them they criticize the govt. as in -"Why isn't the govt. bringing more vacancies, why there is any privatisation, the govt should help us more, this is our right and no one can take it from us."

This is the problem. Haath pe haath daal ke baith jaate hai ki Sarkar hi mere liye kuch karegi, sarkar scheme laegi, and this is my bloody right. They continue preparing for govt. exams on a loop. This fear of competition, fear of learning new skills (abe Data analytics ka course free me hai YouTube pe, porn dekhne ke liye internet hai, data science ke liye I am backward from 1000y), and fear of entering the market to compete with global forces, A.I. and everything is too much in them.

This so much reliance on the Govt. and govt. subsidies and schemes and this belief that is my right because I have population numbers is wrong. If an IIT degree cannot help them, I don't think anything else can.

----

I will tell you guys a Tamil argument against the imposition of Hindi. It's good and counters all this - Representation, our population is more, hence we need more seats debate. A Tamil Professor said, if the only reason why Hindi should be the National Language of India is because Hindi has the highest number of speakers, then by that logic, Indian STREET DOG should become India's National animal (because we all have seen the dog and it has more numbers than Bengal tiger) and CROW should become India's National Bird (because many might have not seen peacock, but, we all have seen the Crow).
Only solid point in your comment is that you cannot understand. Start reading and learning and then maybe you will.
TL;DR of my comment - People start viewing reservation or any subsidy as not even a legal right, but, as a sort of Fundamental right for themselves.

I hope such sassiness and "go and read/learn advice" will come in handy when Private sector will be forced to show their SC,ST, OBCs in their leadership positions and total employee count by caste. Hope they will read/learn too and allow you to speak/give advice.

Do read this - this is 2023 article. https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/telangana/2023/Aug/27/congress-promises-scst-reservation-in-private-sector-rs-12-l-aid-2609140.html
Proper education ?

You just show that you don't have proper education. No person is going to vote for a party that is have incompetent leaders and with the same they are calling for freebies more than BJP and asking reservation in private.

If people cry jitni aabadi utna haq then india should be made hindu rashtra by that logic but all intellectuals will go silent.
Left is really out of touch with ground realities and is inside its echo chamber
You vote for a party that's done nothing for the country in a positive side for the last decade.
looks like jindal ashoka students have come here to cry fascism with dislikes
The sheer amount of downvotes. Lol. This either shows that a majority of users here on this post are LCs or its a sign that most UC students who enrol in law universities situated in metros grow up to be category / caste traitors.
Everyone on this thread, do check out the results of the Bihar Caste Census 2023. And then understand, how much disadvantaged General category is in India. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Bihar_caste-based_survey

The numbers can be extrapolated across the Hindi belt (atleast) and the country too, so the approximate caste numbers will hold everywhere.

The numbers for your reference are -

15% General (including Muslim upper caste)

63% OBC - (27% dominant OBCs like Yadav, and 36% Extremely backward OBCs or EBCs in Bihar=

19% SC

Rest Tribal.

So, for India, approximately, it will be -

15% General, 60% OBC, 20% sc, 5% tribal. Although, I think SC population is higher.

Now, make your arguments and cry left, right. And also ask CPI(M), how many SC and OBC are in their Politburo.
How does this number show disadvantage of the general class? Despite having such a low number, they control all the power and privileges.
Who said people had been making that argument here? If you failed to understand the issue, then how is it another's responsibility?
The readers of LI are clearly hardcore leftists and voting on comments accordingly.

Privatisation makes education unaffordable and hence never desirable.
So you want young UC boys to remain uneducated and jobless?? Govt me admission mil nhi rha hai, private tum establish karne nhi doge ki education mehangi ho jaygi🧐🧐. Pick a side dude ffs
