Needs to be discussed because the present discourse in NLUs and JGLS is only focused on criticising Israel and does not criticise Hamas. We see certain student societies even glorify Hamas by calling them”freedom fighters”.
Israel has killed over 35000 Palestinians in the last 4 months. Those are facts too. Including women and children. Almost none of those people had anything to do with these actions that you speak of.
Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.
Everything is fake to justify killing of innocent Palestinians the hostages that were released they said that everyone behaved with them in a very nice manner but the hostages released by Israel accused them of torture
How do you argue with people living in some fact free universe ? Why do we need the UN to find this ? Hamas told us - they took responsibility, they videoed themselves doing this stuff. The fact that this was in any doubt - like there’s a desperation I think to believe it isn’t true on the left. But it absolutely is.
What do you mean ? The IDF absolutely does tell the press where and when they are planning to attack next and provide numbers of casualties even if it does take time to count it all up. The IDF is not claiming that they are not bombing Gaza or that a ground invasion isn’t happening. They’re not as fact free as all that. Absolutely no one I know is arguing that israel isn’t engaged in a war in Gaza right now. But far too many people want to deny the atrocities committed on oct 7.
I know both sidesing this issue makes us feel like our actions don’t have consequences and there is no moral clarity to be found. But it’s just not true that both sides are doing the same thing at all.
No, IDF keeps saying that many of the killings are actually being done by Hamas and the blame is being put on them. Especially bombing of refuge shelters, hospitals and schools.
There are people in Hamas and Hamas supporters on this site- they claim that Oct 7 never happened, it was a false flag operation, IDF soldiers actually attacked israelis that day, that the hostages are in love with the terrorists keeping them hostage. That there were no rapes or murders that took place on Oct 7.
Does or does not the IDF engage in the same form of fact denialism? Please show me links where IDF is claiming they arent engaged in a war in Gaza. They may disagree about very specific events like the hospital bombing- and from the evidence Ive seen there is reason to believe that those missiles did not come from IDF. but there is no blanket denialism of the war itself. theres justification of war- but not really a complete denial in the same way.
those are two very different things. Its not just a difference in degree its a difference in kind
