There is a huge difference between the two. This letter is nothing but hot air, issued by Sridhar because he is himself coming under fire now. If you call someone to your campus for a lecture knowing well about their narrative and scholarship in advance, then what's the use of crying later when they speak about that exact narrative?
I think Prof Vanaik was not paid anything to deliver the lecture. Jindal faculty invited him. He didn't go on his own. He has all academic freedom to share his views. Don't invite guest lectures if you can't tolerate the views.

Comes shortly after all the members of the Jindal family visited campus and the VC announced that the university will start STEM courses. Very obviously a message was sent from the government that Jindal must "rectify" its left-wing bias.
Congress is no longer in power and Sameena Dalwai's father is no longer a Rajya Sabha MP. Would the VC have reprimanded her had this incident happened before 2014?
Prof Dalwai was targeted because she is a woman and a liberal. She is a victim of toxic masculinity and toxic fascism. Simple as that.
And FYI chutiya is not an abuse in North India. Maybe she made a minor mistake by not recognising that it is an abuse elsewhere, but that's not an offence.

Listen, she is indeed a victim of misogyny. I can name many male professors who did many objectionable things but got away. A male prof at NLSIU slut-shamed a girl for wearing shorts but later became a VC. Why is Sameena being singled out?
Why didn't you complain against such male teachers if it happened in front of you? Here, people did and managed to pursue it effectively till someone took cognisance. Learn from that and do better.
so the argument is that because some male professors have gotten away with terrible behaviour we have to let terrible behaviour from female profs slide? thats whataboutery. Judge this case for this case- the stuff she did was objectively terrible in terms of education not just student privacy or professional communication.
