SILF was established in 2000, shortly after India joined the WTO, to prevent foreign law firms from entering. They lobbied successive governments, both BJP and Congress-led, to prevent the entry of foreign law firms. They succeeded for 23 years, but it looks like they have now been defeated. ... Or could there still be a twist in the tale?

According to the Sunday Guardian, SILF met with the BCI a few months ago and said: "Indian entities in India would lose their hold over young lawyers as once the foreign lawyers and firms enter the Indian market, they will emerge as the first choice for internship and jobs considering their pro-employee policies, pay, work environment and professionalism."

So how come the BCI didn't listen to them, considering that a very influential family close to the PM is the driving force behind SILF?

Nothing is going to change. People have sent evaluation teams. No one is coming.

People have discussed mergers. No one wants to merge because of profitability issues. Fly in fly out is most convenient.
the draft has been changed several times, and the watered down version says that the foreign firms will only be allowed to practice non-India law. So, it just puts in paper what was already allowed.
Not confirmed yet. Still under discussion. UK may accept non-entry of foreign law firms in exchange for stronger IPR laws. The latter is far more important.
Exploiters t1s ka abh khud exploitation beacause no good lawyer or law Student/grads from good law school would prefer these toxic places now
Non court appearance advisory 10 vi pass bhi kar sakta hai.

Foreign law firms ki koi jaroorat nahi hai.
Bhai, first let lawyers practice law normally like a business, get loans, form companies, create equity, do away with lala stuff, etc. Then only other international firms will come in/ should be let in. Equality among equals, isnt that the aim?
