If the allegations are untrue, then this is persecution and the govt should be condemned. If the allegations are true and he was in league with the CCP to disrupt India, then lock him up for treason. Simple as that.
Maybe you should see Gopal Sankaranarayanans reply to Menaka Guruswamy's in today's Indian Express

https://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/why-i-will-watch-india-play-pakistan-in-the-cricket-world-cup-8969703/

Not so much camaraderie there, and I don't really blame Gopal after the drivel she wrote.
I don’t notice any foul play in this particular scenario. She firmly expressed her views and advocate Sankaranarayanan countered them. That’s it. Let’s not blow this out of proportion.

They both were mature and professional enough to engage in a valid discourse rather than sticking to the fallacy of ad hominem….
Very shameful that some people here are taking digs at Law School. Please have the basic IQ to understand it's a trumped case to defame Gautam and Law School, similar to the case against JNU students and alumni. Even if I assume he took money from Chinese companies to lobby for them, how is that a crime??? There are so many corporate lobbyists hired by Microsoft, Google etc.
Aparna Chandra has tweeted:

""spirited defense" of one's (alleged) clients - is that a testimonial or a crime? In either case, hope this or any other Gautam Bhatia is not persecuted for doing their job well!"

But were Xiaomi, Vivo, TikTok etc even his clients? And why are they being linked to NewsClick?
Free speech advocate accused of taking money from China. Ultimate irony if true 🀣
Two NLSIU Oxford alumni in the news this week: Arghya Sengupta and Gautam Bhatia. One accused of being saffron, one accused of being red. One accused of cosying up to Modi, one accused of cosying up to Xi Jinping. One a desh bhakt, the other allegedly a desh drohi. It’s almost like the movie Deewar πŸ˜…πŸ˜

Gautam: β€œMera paas Xiaomi smartphone hai, TCL TV hai, Lenovo laptop hai…”

Arghya: β€œMera paas Modi hai..”

πŸ˜‚πŸ’€
NUJS alum Ashish Goel has also tweeted support. So request people not to make it an NLSIU v rest issue. But yes, it is perhaps a BJP v Congress/Left issue, so BJP-leaning NLU alumni will be quiet.

Its one friend tweeting against another friend. Its not about NUJS and NLSIU. Ashish Goel and Gautam Bhatia wrote a joint letter to the bar council when Ranjan Gogoi was facing harassment charges. The camaraderie goes back a long way in the past. Alumni of big law schools care about rights. There's nothing unusual about it. This persecution of lawyers is both morally and legally wrong and who else if not the bar will stand up to this persecution.
