CJI has once again spoken on need for better working hours and work life balance in law firms and law offices. How many of us believe that something needs to be done to bring about change or are we ok with status quo? Also, what can be done?
Any market is a slave to demand and supply. The only way I see this happening is by opening up of more law firms, more lawyers to do the job and the general diffusion of work from beyond the group of this 1500-2000 (Gencorp) lawyers across 10-12 law firms. But this will also reduce the compensation. And it is only the senior partners who benefit from overworking the lower ranked resources. And these senior partners are the only ones in a position to change the status quo. And there is a very slim chance of these senior partners doing anything to reduce their bottomline - because neither are they going to give up the work that comes their way nor are they going to hire more people in their teams to share the load so that each resource works for no more than 8 hours/day.
As usual, he is very good at giving gyan and not doing shit. Another day, another Chandrachud gyan!

Although I do laud his initiative for bringing the Supreme Court technologically up to speed.
