Thoughts?
A shot in the arm? Atlas Law merges w Luthra.

Atlas Law Partners, a boutique but full service law firm, based out of Delhi and Gurugram, has merged into Luthra and Luthra. This has led to the infusion of 33 lawyers into the Luthra fold - including 7 partners.

Moreover, Harry Chawla (a pupillage of Rajiv Luthra), the founder of the ALP, has been made a Managing Partner at Luthra.

Will this merger help Luthra and Luthra which has been ailing for the past couple of years with Saraf's exit and Rajiv's demise? Is the appointment of the new MD, a sign of good things to come in the managing committee of the firm?

What are your opinions about this news?

What just now happened at luthra ? They have a new managing partner, bro, out of the blue. Firm amalgamated with Harry. Arch rival of mohit saraf. Life comes full circle for Harry.

Old pillars of luthra Vikas Srivastava senior partner tax and samir dudhoria senior partner Mergers and acquisitions, Have quit. Never got reported anywhere.

What happened to litigation between mohit and luthra?

Litigation between Bobby, sudhir, luthra and mohit?

Litigation between vijay sondhis family and luthra/bobby/sudhir ?

Will Harry fit the MP profile? Can he replace luthra ? Will other partner accept him as their leader and boss.

We want to know.
The old boy is back. L&L just announced his โ€˜gharwapsiโ€™ as โ€˜Managing partnerโ€™ ๐Ÿ˜‚.

For the next episode of โ€˜Desperate housewivesโ€™, please stay tuned to LI
The guy tried to play tricks to get control at his previous firm (who can forget the 45 plus club that he tried to start). Got kicked out. Now finally his dream has come true.
A non entity and a "โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ" at the helm of a "has been" firm - gone from Maybach to Atlas Cycle
I fail to see how this shows Luthra in a good light? Like, this is essentially an admission that the firm was so broken that it had to go outside and merge with a random boutique to just get a managing partner!

Plus, they even had to merge with some barely known litigation chambers last year. So, at this stage, even the perception of the firm's reputation has gotten massively diluted, thanks to them constantly merging with entities otherwise considered irrelevant.
Feel bad for those guys who thought they will go the trilegal way and democratise the decision making by letting EC take the decision.

Is EC being disbanded? If not, will the Luthra nephew continue?
Nobody knows Harry Chawla outside some limited circles in Delhi. Pretty bad move for L&L. Probably they were better off on their own. This merger shows them in very poor light because a Delhi boutique firm has been allowed to take them over. I feel bad for the L&L partners. Were they allowed to vote on this?
It is not about knowing Harry Chawla. There is enough name for L&L that now people will know him. The firm desperately needed a good managing partner at helm. Harry has that expertise having built Atlas from ground up. He brings along a strong team. With his prior understanding of Luthra culture and his new experience of building Atlas, he would have been a good candidate.
Yes.Go Luthra!!!!!!Keep rocking.Excellent move. After Rajiv Luthras demise the firm was under chaos.Great move.
The family and the COO have pulled off this disgraceful stunt to shunt the EC, which was constituted by RKL, right when the EC was starting to flex against the attempted take-over of the firm by the non-lawyer COO (and few hand-picked partners/family retainers).

This appointment is no coup by L&L, and on the contrary is a major blow to whatever reputation and credibility it had in the market. It is cringe worthy to foist a rank outsider (he was an SA in the firm 25 years back) on the unsuspecting partners โ€“ the new MP could not have been MP of L&L on merits alone, he lacks the market reputation or rainmaking ability to become managing partner of L&L. It is impossible to put any positive spin on this appointment. Most partners are vehemently opposed to this, and the angst amongst the partners is palpable, not to mention the level of distrust between the management and the old partners.
People here do not know that Harry is an excellent lawyer. He was Rajiv Luthra's prodigy and Mr. Luthra's wife's statement also backed him up. It almost seemed to him that it was Mr Luthra's wish himself to may be get someone like Harry (read Harry) to manage the firm after he is gone. And that is exactly what happened. All in all a merger is always a good news. Not all great lawyers sit in the "Big 6/7" firms. Great lawyers happen to be in boutique firms as well and Harry is just that. Luthra and Luthra is here to stay.
Harminder Chawla (the so-called Harry) is โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ. He changes firms at the drop of a hat! He joined Kochhar & Co. twice and left it twice! He left L&L in 2000 in anger because Rajiv Luthra refused to declare him No. 2 in the firm, a wholly unreasonable demand given that Harry's peers in the firm were equally good if not better than him. Although โ–ฎโ–ฎโ–ฎ, Harry is whimsical and fickle minded in his liking and disliking for persons. One can foresee a lot of conflict between him and the existing partners. I can't visualize Harry lasting long in the firm; he will depart from L&L the second time too!
I worked at that place once upon a time. It's quite sad to see that they had to merge with a random-ish boutique (Atlas can not be said to be anything like a TTA or S&R or Platinum) just to get an MP? Not even a joint MP or anything of that sort.

A random 33 counsel firm merges and gets dibs on the MP designation of a 200+ counsel firm? That either means that either the 200+ counsel firm was in TERRIBLE shape or the claims of democratization are hogwash
Bhai Atlas was a good firm in Pe vc sector..you need to realise the power required to merge with 33 member firm just to get an mp
