can you please tell me the differences between circulars, notifications, guidelines, master circulars, master directions, rules, regulations? I am a final year law student and all I know is what an act is, everything else that I've mentioned above looks the same to me. Could you please tell me what is the hierarchy and the differences between the things that I've mentioned?

2: Some associates say, "Act mein nahi mila to rules me check karo" , my question is- sometimes they say rules mein check karo sometimes they say regulations me check karo, sometimes they say koi circular dekho? so act ka kaam kya hai fir itna sab banana hai to? kya kya check karein ye kaise pata lagta hai

pls help me sir/madam , i am from a regional law college and i have no mentors
1. Act - passed by state legislature or parliament. Central Act / State Acts

2. Rules - Again framed by respective government. Another form of delegated legislation

3. Circulars, Master Circular - issued by governing bodies/institutions. If you are in insurance laws circulars of IRDAI is important. If banking laws - circulars of RBI is important.

4. Notification - is short for Gazette Notification. They are issued by respective government Central/State for Central/State laws. This is a form of delegated legislation.

5. Guidelines - Can be of HC/SC in a landmark case (Think DK basu for arrest guideline, Pranav Sethi for MACT compensation guidelines) OR some circulars have incorporated guidelines.
Great answer, but wouldn’t a notification be a written confirmation of legislation or delegated legislation, rather than delegated legislation itself????
Simple hai dost.
1. Act - Jo ki core act hai jisme substantive law likha hota hai;
2. Rule- Act ko implement karne ke liye framework banana hota hai, wo isme aata hai. Jaise Insurance Act bolta hai ke aapko insurance broker register karna padega, IRDAI Rules bataenge ke aapko license register karne ke liye kya documents chahiye.
3. Regulations- Delegated hota hai ye. Eg, lets say an act "x" gives power to the State Government to make rules, that would be called a Regulation.
4. Notification: existing rules/regulation me kuch change ya clarification karne ke liye. At times not all sections of some act are "notified" i.e. not in power. Notification ke through karte hain ye.
5. Circular: Internal hota hai, jaise school me hota hai ke aaj chutti hai. Law ke kisi point par ya koi procedural point par prakaash daalne ke liye.
6. Guidelines: Recommendation type hoti hai, code of conduct type. Guidelines ki legal validity nahi hoti hai court me.

Hierarchy ye hi rahegi. Look in the Act, then the rules and so on and so forth. Idhar kahin tumko uttar mil jana chahiye apani query ka.

Idhar bhi nahi mila to aap Case Laws dhundo, isme aur samay lagega lekin worth it rehta hai.

Idhar bhi nahi mila to foreign judgments, documents dekho uski persuasive value hoti hai.

Udhar bhi na mile to aap fir jurisprudence ki qitabein uthao.

Law me aapko parshn ka uttar hazaro jagah mil jaega agar kaam karne ko tayyar ho.
thank u so much sir/ma'am. do doubts hai bas
1- rule and regulation me farak abtak nahi clear hua - pls bta denge
2- circular aapne kaha internal hota hai - to iska kya matlab hai? school ki chutti ka circular beshak internal hota hai but chutti to ho hee jati hai uske through, so I don't understand it
