Khaitan & Co has continued its aggressive lateral hiring strategy, taking partner Prabjot Singh Bhullar from AZB & Partners.
Bhullar (pictured) was based in AZB's Mumbai office but will relocate to Delhi, where he will significantly bolster Khaitan's infrastructure and projects capacity.
Khaitan partner Rabindra Jhunjhunwala said that the firm was keen to expand in infrastructure and tax, in order to improve cross selling opportunities to the firm's domestic clients.
Mr. Jhunjhunwala explained: "Tax and infrastructure are both areas that we’ve been wanting to build heavily. In all other areas people know about us but in these two particular areas people are not yet aware of our strength."
This is the second partner hire for Khaitan in as many months, following Bharat Anand's hire from UK firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
In October 2008, Khaitan also hired Murali Neelakantan and Kalpana Unadkat from UK firm Ashurst as partners. Unadkat also had experience of working in the infrastructure projects space.Bhullar (pictured) had joined AZB less than a year ago from J Sagar Associates, where he was a partner and had been practising for seven-and-a-half years.
At AZB he had recently been working on Indian windfarm projects for Spanish energy company Endesa.
He told Legally India that he hopes to expand Khaitan's infrastructure team with junior hires.
AZB co-founding partner Zia Mody said that she wished Bhullar well and that he was enthusiastic about his practice area. She added that he may take one or two Indian clients with him to Khaitan from AZB.
