Law minister Salman Khursheed's wife Louise Khursheed, represented by Abhimanyu Bhandari, co-founding partner of Axon Partners, and senior advocate Parag Tripathy, has filed a Rs 1 crore defamation claim in the Delhi high court against the India Today group and 13 other defendants including prominent TV anchors, who are represented by senior advocate CA Sundaram.
The 14 defendants include the India Today group, its TV channels Aaj Tak and Headlines Today, its newspaper Mail Today, as well as India Today magazine executive editor Aroon Purie, and news anchors Deepak Sharma and Rahul Kanwal.
Louise Khursheed is claiming defamation over the defendants' reports of allegations relating to a charity where Louise Khurshid is a functionary, which were re-raised by anti-corruption campaigner Arvind Kejriwal last week.
Bhandari had also represented former Congress party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whose son is a co-founding partner of Axon, in his ban against media houses screening an alleged sex tape depicting of Manu Singhvi.

Yeah, I would like to know too ! Axon Partners Through Anubhav Singhvi & Abhimanyu Bhandari was very much "on" for similar cases like the EL SARI ROJO (The Red Sari, Javier Moro) book scandal, the internet case of GIIS K12 Education vs Google, and last but not least the case of the intriguingly boring CD video recording case of dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi in action vs Driver Lal, Aaj Tak, Headlines Today and the India Today Group. All of these are cases very much near and dear to Dr Abhishek Singhvi I would think. So wonder why Anubhav's name is left out now. Inadvertent ? Where's the scoop, journos ?

Hmm, I wonder if political connections can help move a firm forward? Tough question, Manoj. Real headscratcher.
LI - You should do a series of articles profiling the political affiliations of "firms" and their clients. I can see nice graphics - headshots of political figures, with funny flowcharts showing the often incestuous relationships of "firms," "counsel" and political parties and figures. Proposed title - "Less than Six Degrees of Separation from Congress."
This would make it easier for foreign firms to find the "qualities" they need in local counsel and prevent silly discussions of whether a few years humping files for Cravath is more important than having a father who's juiced up with the power elite.
Why do you think a shop like Cravath hires the offspring of connected people and lets them do fifth-chair scut work on minor deals or crank out CDOs from the document assembly software?
Bhandari is a sharp guy. but he lacks hardcore litigation practice.
One can reach the top and having the right connections do help.
there is many a slip between the cup and the lip. lets see how much of a hardcore litigator he can become.
also, i think even bhandari is also related to singhvi. not sure about this though.
Who is Senor Agape - from your comments, it looks to me that you barely managed to scrape through an internship at DLA or Bakers...firms that seem to follow the business model you articulte - high volume, low margin, cranking up CDOs overnight with assemly lines built with softwares to change names, commas and particulars... A few more facts you should know so that you can make more intelligent comments next time:
1. Cravath is a super niche firm with no more than 300 attorneys - they do 'not' do CDOs or have an assembly line software for churning out deals.
2 Cravath is the firm that does big ticket M&A deals and invented some of the more innovative LBO structures - their business model doesn't support the idea of having robots churn through documents.
If they needed to hire "connected Indians", they probably could have done what a lot of UK firms did in the 90s and early 2000,,,fly down to India and hire out a truck-load of Indian attorneys...
You probably got thrown out of the truck...and the disappointment comes across painfully...:)
Are you confusing other Bhandari's perhaps ? Dr L M Singhvi's younger sister Chandra was married to one Mr Narpat Bhandari, a prominent Silicon Valley NRI who set up the Bhandari Program on Indian Entrepreneurship at University of Berkeley. Not that I know of any relation between him and Abhi.

--You seem very confused, Mr Agape. Comments such as "father who's juiced up with the power elite" and "Cravath hires the offspring of connected people" are factually INCORRECT ------> Dr Singhvi is not Abhimanyu's father! Not sure where you have got your incorrect information from. Again, these comments show you have done absolutely no homework. Given this fact, your above comments make no sense at all!
A concerned Friend.
There is no way in the world that someone with Bhandari's academic background would have been hired by Cravath absent political or society links.
And really, Cravath could care less if you're a "foreigner." The reason why U.S. law firms are ascendant is they only see "green." It's we parochial practitioners who are hung up on the skin color of advocates. U.S. law firms will fall over themselves to hire Preet Bharara if he doesn't end up running for a major political office. Diversity in the U.S. means more than one guy from North India and one guy from South India.
But it's nice of you to speak up for your friend.
Sure, I know Abhi well and I have no hesitation in speaking up for him.
