Amarchand Mangaldas' Delhi office has promoted principal associates Prashant Gupta and Tejas Karia to its partnership, with Gupta being the firm's first full-time capital markets partner outside of Mumbai and Bangalore, while Mumbai has made up principal associate Vandana Pai Bharucha.
Litigation principal associate Karia has been a long-time member of Amarchand's Delhi office and is now a partner.
He specialises in international commercial arbitrations and IT law, having graduated from ILS Pune in 2000 and completing an LLM from London School of Economics and Gujarat University in 2003 and 2002 respectively. He is dual qualified as in England and Wales and India.
In Mumbai the firm promoted corporate principal associate Bharucha to its partnership.
Gupta will be heading up a team of around 15 capital markets lawyers in Delhi, having joined Amarchand two years ago from Sidley Austin in San Francisco.
Both promotions will take effect retroactively from 1 April, when Amarchand also promoted two Delhi associates, one Mumbai associate and made one lateral partner-level hire from the UK.
Delhi managing partner Shardul Shroff added by email that the promotion season was not yet finished. "We are presently at an advanced stage of appointing a tax litigation partner in keeping with our progressive policy of enhancing the level of excellence and depth in practice."
Gupta has been heavily involved in Amarchand's government disinvestment and capital markets practice.
Amarchand capital markets in Mumbai is headed up by partner Yash Ashar and is understood to consist of up to 28 lawyers, while the Bangalore offices' capital markets practice is headed by partner Arjun Lall.
Across India the firm's department dealt with more than twice as many initial public offerings (IPOs) in the last financial year as any other Indian law firm, according to Legally India research.
Gupta qualified as an Indian lawyer after graduating with a law degree from the University of Oxford in 2002, before which he studied an undergraduate degree in commerce at Delhi University.
