i think Kian you have missed some moots like KLE, NALSAR moot, and Raj Anand moot definitely deserves to be in the Tier Three competitions and so does Nani Palkhiwala moot.

and it would be wise to be updated with the moot results. a similiar moot ranking system was started by LST and it tanked as it never got updated after a point of time.

From a reader:

"Anand and Anand IP Law Moot would not be happening this year. In its place, NUJS in collaboration with IPTLS, NUJS would be organising a International Moot Court Competition on IP Law.

One more thought, i do think DMH and NLS arbitration should not be in the same tier. NLS does not have as much as international participation as DMH."

We will take all suggestions on board and will look to incorporate them if necessary.

In response to #2 - we fully intend to cover every single mooting competition on our list this season.

Please help us by letting us know about moots that you are taking part in, sending us your team members, comments and victories.

Every law school has a moot court committee I would suggest Legally India to collaborate with the moot court committees of the law school and keep itself updated. This is one way LI can reach out to different law schools and make this ranking system a success rather than wait for students to mail their "success stories" as some of them definitely would not be interested or too lazy to mail. So contacting the MCC of all the law schools (wherever possible) would be the best approach or just collaborate with law schools and their MCCs.

I am sure most of the national law schools and their MCC will be interested to collaborate with LI.

[Thanks for your comment, you are entirely correct.

In fact, that is actually exactly what we have done and are still doing.

We hope to catch all the moot results therefore.

However, sometimes things can slip through the net so please also help us out by letting us know.

If you are on the moot court committee of a law school and we have not yet had the chance to find and contact you, please get in touch too, we will be very happy to hear from you. -Ed]

Kian my friend I work in a law firm, I graduated like one and a half years back. However its easy to contact the MCC of the law schools, just go to the website or just call the law school they will refer you to the MCC head, it will be a student who will head the MCC and its always better to contact a student rather than a faculty member as the students would be more proactive regarding these stuff, or just issue a letter to all the major law schools addressing the MCC and telling your intention and how you guys want to collaborate with them simple. its not tough i think.

[Thanks for your suggestion. I think we are on the right track right now but will definitely do what we can to get in touch with more MCCs. Best regards, Kian]

Hi Kian,

I have few suggestions to make as regards the mooting league table.

Firstly, the table indicates that it is for the year 2009-10. Thus I am presuming that this means Academic Year 2009-10. Therefore, moots from July 2009 to June 2010 should be incorporated in the table. This is important for the reason that this mooting league table, as I see it, is going to last for quite some time (unlike LST's Mootopia). So let us have some uniformity and follow it academic year-wise and at the end of each academic year you may declare the winner of that year.

Secondly, many moots - which would fall in tier 4 competitions - have not been included. For instance V.M. Salgaokar Moot and Rizvi Moot. I udnerstand that these moots are relatively small event events. But in that case, we may have tier 5 for these moots. If you wish, I can provide you with a detailed list of all the moots. However, that would require some research and consequently some time on my part.

Thirdly, there are commas and periods put up after the names of few moots in the list whereas not after others. Small formatting error. Please correct.

Fourthly, even in tier 2 compeitions you have missed out few. For instance Maritime Arbitration, Miami Moot, John Marshall, Oxford IPR etc. Moreover, I see that two Moots organised by NALSAR have not been incorporated even after a comment being made in that regard. If you do not act upon comments promptly then it will only discourage people from pointing out such things in future. Just a freindly suggestion, please take it positively.

Fifthy, and lastly, few awards - which are competition specific - have not been incorporated in the points table. For instance, Maritime Arbitration has Team and Individual Achievement Awards and similary John Marshall has something called as the Ambassador Round.

Thanks!

Sanjay.

[Thanks Sanjay! We will update the table after we have evaluated all the comments and suggestions we receive on it. Will be easier and more transparent than doing it bit-by-bit.

We will provide an explanation of any changes we make to the system so that the process and ranking can be as transparent as possible.]

KK Luthra Moot memorial, held at CLC, Delhi University, is probably one of the the only moots in India on International Criminal law. It surely deserves a place as a Tier 4 moot court competition. For the past 5 yeras almost all the NLSs have been participating, and moot problem is also of very high quality.

Consider including a tier 5. Tier 4 is getting way too crowded.
One of the Criteria could be the no. of NLSs that participate in the moot.

Thanks Radhika - I believe we are not including the South Asia Rounds as the Indian team apparently (almost) always wins, so it is a bit of a duplication if we award points for both National and South Asia. Please do let us know if you disagree.

Some important moots have not been highlighted whereas other irrelevant moots have been mentioned take for example the CIAC - Construction Industry Aribitration Council Moot... which got cancelled after the submissions of the memorials... this not only shows the standard of the moot but also puts the host Rmnlu In bad light , who conveniently after the date of submission cancelled the moot and give the lamest reason which is that they had no funds .... Another moot that could be included in the list is the Sri Venkateswarar Iyer Memorial moot which was held by GLC, Ernakulum...

Hello,

What about moots which have a 2nd best speaker award, shouldn't they also have the same points as the honourable mention?

Hello,
I firstly like to praise you for your effort in tabulating the moot court competition is a great manner, it requires a lot of patience congratulations. Well at this point i would like to suggest you that a moot court which has been held since 13 yrs i.e. "The national Moot court Competition" conducted by University Law college, Bangalore, based on environment law must be given the same privity as any other moot court competition which is just a year old. So i request your good self to look in to the aforesaid matter and place the moot accordingly.
Thank you,
Mahesh

I think that G H Raisoni Law School and Indian Society of International Law's Moot too deserves a mention as a tier 4 moot. The moot is in its 5th year now and has been recognized by the Bar Council as the 8th best moot court in India, on the grounds of hospitality and judging quality.
The LI team is requested to look into the matter as fast as possible for the 5th edition of the moot is scheduled to be held in feb 2010. All teams from all over the country participate.

I think K.K. Luthra and Raj Anand ought to be Tier-3 moots because these are moots with excellent judging and very high levels of competition (for eg: Luthra saw 55 teams in its 2010 edition, which is 25 more times than BCI).

#23 Pro Bono Enviro National Moot Court Competition
written by Anonymous, 31 January 2010 16:09
SOEL, Chennai has been successfully organising Pro Bono Enviro since 2008. The 1st edition was won by RMLNLU, Lucknow and the 2nd edition was won by HNLU, Raipur. All the top league law schools participate and last year apart from NLSIU, almost all the other NLUs, ILS, GLC participated in the said moot. The level is judging is excellent with stalwarts like Dr.Ambrose/Partners of Law firms like Surana and Paras Kuhad/ partners of US based law firms(for instance Apheleon Legal, who are also a sponsor for the competition) judging the various rounds of the competition....to round up...SOEL Chennai has being putting up a good show on the MPL and it is this experience that is reflected by their successfully organising Pro Bono Enviro and also maintaining an optimum level of judging...

The Prize money is also huge....Rs.20,000/- and and excellent trophies..

The dates for the 2010 edition of the moot have been announced..19th 20th and 21st of March.

I strongly recommend this moot to be included in the list. This is also older than many other names out there like the CIAC, IICLAM,ULC, NUJS Corporate, GIMC,NLU Delhi Corporate, BR Shawney...etc...

#24 M M Singhvi - Tier 4?
written by Anonymous, 31 January 2010 17:28
The M M Singhvi Moot, having successfully concluded its 13th edition is one of the oldest Moot Court Competitions in India. It has the Bar Council of India as its co-sponsor, and judges of High Courts and the Supreme Court of India judging its finals. The moot has regularly seen participation of foreign teams which included teams from Uganda, Australia, Pakistan, Nepal and the USA this year.

With 50 colleges in the 2010 edition, it is one of the largest Indian moots in terms of participation.

Kindly explain why it is still considered a tier 4 Moot, while D.M. Harish and NLS International Arbitration are tier 3 Moots?
