Also, most of them have packages of number of awards, number of articles they will publish for the firm, number of cover stories which will feature partners, speaking opportunities, social media posts about deals and orders, etc etc. Plus all the price quoted by these awards are negotiable and even the categories. You can create your own categories. Also, cheaper the award more you will see lesser known firms winning best firm in the practice area they are working on or individual lawyers winning awards when they are at best a decent name in the industry but in no case best
Its depressing and demotivating, but the sad truth is that even the so called most prestigious and international journals are routinely offering nominations, shortlist mentions and recognitions for a price.
If an event is planned for the award then it is extremely likely that more than merit has gone behind an award.
Even most of the 100 under 100 type of awards :) are managed.
The super expensive India Business Law Journal lets you author an article every month for a year subject to the condition that you buy a certain number of copies for distribution to clients and others. The money is ostensibly for the copies but is actually the consideration for the space reserved for your articles which of course carry your photo, name and firm address prominently.
Its stuff like this that reminds of Chuck McGill's dialogue from better call saul "Do good work & good work will come to you" it's hard to believe anyone will actually trust such an "award winning" lawyer
