Hi, I am a 3rd year law student from a tier-2/3 NLU. I am interested in technology law. I am confused whether I should choose one area or proceed forward with both of them. I have seen partners at some renowned tier-2 firms handling tech related and fintech work along with their corp/m&a practice and TMT teams of tier-2 law firms handling general corp related work of technology companies. Do both these fields overlap? How much gen corp, m&a, pe and vc work is there for technology lawyers? Are there any teams in tier-1 firms that handle both technology and corporate work together? Are there lesser opportunities and lesser money in TMT, if I choose TMT over Corporate? With rapid growth in technology, does having knowledge and experience in Technology Law helps one in securing a job in Corporate Teams of tier-1 and tier-2 law firms
i think they overlap based on the partner whose team you'd be a part of, and what nature of work they undertake. Check out Hemant Krishna's team in SAM bangalore, his work profile is mostly tech with corp and m&a
