Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab was established in 2006 by the Punjab Government vide Punjab Act (12 of 2006).
The campus is located on Bhadson Road, near the village of Sidhuwal. It is about 10 kilometres away from the city center.
The current Vice Chancellor is Dr Paramjit Singh Jaiswal who has previously served as the VC of Hidyatullah National Law University and has been the head of the law faculty at Punjab University, Chandigarh. The ceremonial post of Chancellor is an ex-officio post held by the Punjab and Haryana high court Chief Justice. This position is currently occupied by Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar(2015). The registrar of the university is Dr GIS Sandhu who has served as faculty at Punjab University.

The admission process for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses involves the CLAT exam, as is the case with all the other NLU's.
There are currently four hostels each for both boys and girls. All the rooms are air conditioned(window AC's). Due to ample funding most of the basic amenities are available. This includes hot water in winters, water coolers and room furniture.
