Khaitan Sud Partners teeters on edge of break-up along family lines

KSP may dissolveKSP may dissolve

Khaitan Sud & Partners (KSP) is on the verge of a break-up with managing partner Umesh Khaitan, and his son and equity partner Ashutosh Khaitan having now rebranded to operate as Khaitan & Khaitan, according to authoritative sources.

KSP’s third equity partner Malini Sud started up Delhi-based law firm Capex Legal last year, while her son and KSP’s fourth equity partner Tanuj Sud continues to work from KSP’s second office, in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, under the KSP brand name.

Tanuj Sud told Legally India that none of the firm’s equity partners had exited KSP’s partnership. He commented: “Nothing is agreed formally yet and I don’t think as a partnership, KSP is prepared to go public about this yet.”

Umesh Khaitan did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment since yesterday. The Khaitans will continue to operate Khaitan & Khaitan from Delhi’s Defence Colony – which was KSP’s office.

Malini Sud declined to comment since last year.

The Linkedin profile of one of the salaried partners part of the rebranded firm states that they are a partner in “Khaitan & Khaitan”.

Sorry, please clarify which Khaitan either of you two are talking about: Khaitan & Co, KSP, or Khaitan & Khaitan?

Neither of you are terribly clear (nor terribly certain) which you mean...

The story is that they were operating as different profit centers within the firm itself, so this is just a "formalization" of the split. Of course, Umesh Khaitan doesn't comment, he only does so when someone sues him or his firm!

They have always had independent profit centers...that's been the firm culture!

ha ha....this is probably the first case where the managing partner and his deputy themselves ran away....with practice of course! Now what will happen to others?

It had to happen Umesh did a mistake by changing name from khaitan 7 khaitan to khaitan sud,coz Sud always had an agenda having grown from Umesh team how to kill it completely,Umesh chose the wrong mother n son duo to depend upon

Certainly Umesh made a mistake- somebody at Legally India is after him for no reason. Legally India should rather cover their credentials and good transactions they work on.
