J Sagar Associates (JSA) has promoted Vishnu Sudarsan and Varghese Thomas to its quasi-equity partner ranks, alongside 16 promotions to salaried partner level.
Sudarsan, specialising in corporate and projects, has become equity partner elect in Gurgaon, while Thomas, who specialises in corporate and banking, was promoted to equity partner elect in Mumbai, growing the size of JSA’s equity and quasi-equity partnership to around 23 after the official retirement of the firm’s founder Jyoti Sagar yesterday.
Equity partners elect enjoy the same privileges as equity partners but can not accede to the equity partnership deed due to the 1956 Companies Act 20-partner limit on partnerships.
A total of 18 lawyers were also promoted to retained partner level, of whom there are now around 46 at the firm after two dispute resolution promotions in October.
Seven of the new retained partners, or 39 per cent, are women.
In Mumbai
- Kavita Agarwal (asset finance, corporate & projects),
Agarwal Bhumgara - Jamshed Bhumgara (corporate commercial),
- Kaushik Mukherjee,
- Rajesh Pal, and
- Mithun Thanks (corporate, commercial & regulatory),
were elevated to the salaried partnership (Agarwal, Bhumgara pictured right).
In Gurgaon
- Nitesh Bhasin (corporate & capital markets),
- Minu Dwivedi (corporate & commercial),

The firm has around 260 lawyers working for it.

Really Kian?
Companies Act, 1956 or Partnership Act, 1932... Kian get the law atleast correct
www.vakilno1.com/bareacts/companiesact/the-companies-act-1956.html#11_Prohibition_of_associations_and_partnerships_exceeding_certain_number
Dear STRANGE, you get the law correct and see s.11 of the Companies Act, 1956 and check the [...] out for yourself and inform us if the provision does not provide for limitation on the number of partners in a non-banking firms to be 20 and in banking as 10....So, Kian's reasoning is essentially correct, but for people like you, some more analysis and citation of sections was required.
I don't really know you but I wanted to say that.
Amen to that!
