Amarchand’s Abhimanyu Bhattacharya joins Khaitan after only 4 months garden leave

Bhattacharya: Garden leave trimmed
Bhattacharya: Garden leave trimmed

Amarchand Mangaldas partner Abhimanyu Bhattacharya, who resigned in July, has now joined Khaitan & Co as expected and as first reported by Legally India at the time.

Although Amarchand Mumbai partner Vandana Shroff said in July that Bhattacharya would be required to serve six months of garden leave, it is understood that the period has been reduced to around four months by mutual agreement between the firms.

According to a Khaitan press release, Bhattacharya’s joining in Mumbai as a partner would boost the firm’s capital markets practice.

He was promoted to Amarchand’s partnership in 2013, one year before his resignation. He had joined Amarchand in 2006 after an LLM from NUS Singapore and an LLB from NUJS Kolkata in 2005.

In the press release, Khaitan partner Rabindra Jhunjhunwala commented: “On behalf of the firm, I am delighted to welcome Abhimanyu to the team. Abhimanyu is a highly regarded Capital markets lawyer whose arrival will help us strengthen our Capital markets practice. The work Abhimanyu undertakes for the firm will not only help maintain the firm's momentum, but build on its rapidly increasing reputation.
