NLU Jodhpur gained 6 points in its win of the Amity National Moot Court Competition to move into the Mooting Premier League's (MPL) second place with 79 points - two points ahead of long-time runner-up and erstwhile leader NLS Bangalore. [Correction - The article originally stated that only 5 points were awarded for the win. -Ed.]
The team from NLU Jodhpur defeated Nalsar Hyderabad in the finals but MPL leader Nalsar performed a clean sweep of all the other awards in the competition and strengthened its hold at the top.
NLU Jodhpur was represented by Rishabh Chopra, Vinay Subramanian and Aniket Deepak.
Niharika from Nalsar won the best orator while Prabhat Kumar of Nalsar bagged the best researcher. To add to this the team from Nalsar also won the best memorial prize.
With this win Nalsar gained a whopping 18 points from the event to move to 132 points, while new runner-up NLU Jodhpur is now a massive 52 points behind.
The MPL is now sponsored by Clifford Chance and the top eight ranked law colleges will share a generous prize fund of Rs 1.5 lakhs provided by the firm.
This was the 9th edition of the competition organized by Amity Law School, Delhi from 5 to 7 March. The problem was based on issues relating to Intellectual property laws and administrative law. The Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan and leader of opposition and senior lawyer Arun Jaitley were present at the valedictory session.
However NLU Jodhpur still has a good chance to reduce the gap to the lead next week when the world finals of the Stetson Moot is organised.
Both NLS Bangalore and Nalsar Hyderabad failed to qualify for the world finals while NLU Jodhpur had won the Stetson North India qualifying rounds.
Stetson World Rounds is a Tier 2 event and NLU Jodhpur will be able to come within touching distance of Nalsar with a good performance at the event.
The four teams representing India in the event are NLU Jodhpur and Amity Law School, IP University, Delhi from North India and KLA, Thiruvanthapuram and New Law College, Bharti Vidyapeeth University, Pune from South India.
With the Amity Moot court competition, we complete our coverage of Tier 4 moot court competitions. In all Nalsar managed to score in almost all the Tier 4 competitions.
We are still confirming the results of the Henry Dunant Asia Pacific rounds, at which SOEL Chennai is representing India.

Best regards,

I sincerely hope that this competition gets a look into.
However, we understand that ICC Hague is gaining in popularity and we have it at the top of the list for inclusion in next year's MPL.
In this case we made a tight call between ICC Paris and ICC Hague and after discussions with mooters came to the conclusion that ICC Paris was just slightly ahead of Hague in terms of attendance and prestige.
Next year's MPL selection process will be much more in-depth and collaborative. We will keep you posted.
Best regards,
Kian
I'm happy with my semi finalist tag though, considering we were an all first year team and didn't know jack of IPR before the problem was out. Here's hoping GNLU will win something noteworthy next time.
A special mentioned to IIT Kharagpur too, great effort !
But like everybody's said,NLUJ were flawless !
Loved the semi finals against you guys, cheers !
Last year, much before MPL, NLU -J topped in the Bar Council Mooting Rankings.
I sincerely hope that this competition gets a look into.
On your comment about low participation in the ICC Trial Competition, here is the reason. They have a "qualifying" assignment round out of which only two or three teams from every country are allowed to participate in the Competition. The fact that many Indian teams do not get to participate is because they do not qualify.
If the world rounds of Manfred Lachs, Henry Dunant, Jessup and Stetson where participation is subject to qualification is considered, even ICC Trial should be considered for the same reason.
i fail to understand the logic of the points for individual prizes being more than points awarded for being runners up. mooting is a team effort. you win or lose as a team. and from personal experience, have come to realise that like it or not, any individual member always needs his team members to back him/her up during a tough period of the competition. also, i feel this present scoring criteria breeds individualism.
i suggest the following scoring criteria:
best team : 6 points
runners up : 4 points
best speaker, researcher, etc. : 4/3 points
wining man lachs in sydney (arguably one of the best of moots in the world) = winning 2 tier 4 moots with one best speaker/researcher award.
so. man lachs = nliu tankha + amity school moot (hypothetical)
come on. tier 4 moots might be ok in their own little area ... but this cant be the position
Definately one of the best and most persuasive public speakers I've come across.
i do believe the tipping balance were the other speakers- whilst vinay from jodhpur was really good, the second speaker from nalsar did not quite impress.
vinay- 127
rishabh-133
niharica-112
s2 nalsar-111
mooting is abt evrything- fluency, court manners, taking the opposite sides case, legal substance and nlu-j hd evrythng unlike nalsar
@29: we will restrict ourselves to Tier 1 and 2 for it.
Good Luck

Vinay
I reiterate- a moot needs to be won on legal prowess. resorting to tactics like pointing out typographical errors in the other sides memo is simply not done.
