Background

National Law Institute University (NLIU) Bhopal was established in 1998 by an enactment of the State Legislature of Madhya Pradesh in 1997 through Act 41 of 1997.

Location

Located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The campus is based in the lush green forest in the back waters of Kerwa and Kaliyasoth Dam. The hillocks of Bhabdhada and Kaliyasoth the give sylvan surrounding to NLIU. The campus is situated in verdant eco-friendly surroundings on Bhadbhada Road at the outskirts of Bhopal near the Kerwan Dam. The campus is surrounded with hills and lush greenery, with calm atmosphere without any city disturbances, yet the city being easily accessible. The NLIU has been allotted 40 acres of land on a hillock by the Government of Madhya Pradesh where the campus has been developed with all modern academic and residential facilities.<ref>NLIU website - About Us</ref>

There are close to 400 students which have been housed on campus and every year 82 students are welcomed to avail the state-of-the-art education benefits provided by the college. There are close to 28 faculty members of the faculty and 5 from the library staff which again are housed on campus

Admissions

The university admits only 82 undergraduates per year through the [Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)]. Out of these 82 seats 41 are reserved for Madhya Pradesh domicile holders and rest for the All India category.

Degrees offered

The combined B.A., LL.B (Hons.) degrees require completing 15 trimesters.

The post-graduate course offered at the university is the LL.M. degree.

IT Infrastructure

NLIU houses full fledged Computer Center satisfying all the needs of students including printing, scanning etc. It also proudly boasts about the 2MBPS dedicated internet connection, which provides connectivity not only in the Computer Center but also provides for seamless wireless internet connectivity, spread over multiple Wi-Fi hot spots, in the whole campus with unmatched connectivity. All the web journals subscribed by the institute can be accessed in the ease of the hostel rooms with I.P. based access.

Extra Curricular Activities

Mooting

NLIU has hosted eight national moot court competitions in the last five years. The list includes prestigious names like the 23rd All India Bar Council Moot Court Competition 2006, Justice R. K. Tankha Memorial Moot Court Competition in 2005, 2007 and 2009, Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition North India Rounds in 2008 and 2009, NLIU Juris Corp Moot Court Competition 2010.
