Background
History
The Faculty of Law was established in 1924 and was initially housed in the Prince's Pavilion in the Old Vice regal Lodge Grounds. In 1963, the faculty moved to its present location at the Chhatra Marg, University of Delhi, Delhi.

LLB Admissions Intake (i) the intake in LLB first year course is 2310 (770 at the Campus Law Centre, 924 at Law Centre I and 616 at Law Centre II). Of this, 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste and, Scheduled Tribe candidates, respectively. The seats reserved for SC/ST candidates are interchangeable subject to non-availability of the candidates in the respective categories and shall be offered to general candidates in case SC/ST candidates are not available.
(ii) Foreign nationals having qualifying degrees from foreign universities are exempted from the Entrance Test requirement and may be admitted on merit against 1 % to total seats at each Law Centre. The admissions in this category will close along with other admissions.
(iii) There is no reservation of seats for applicants in any other category.
(iv) If there are more candidates with the same marks/rank in th LLB Entrance Test than the number of seats available, admission is made on the basis of following rules:
(a) The candidate(s) securing higher marks in the qualifying degree examination (Graduate/Post-Graduate) will be offered admission.
(b) If two or more candidates have the same percentage of marks in the qualifying degree examination, the elder in age will be offered admission.
(c) If admission cannot be made under the above rules, the seat will be offered by a draw of lots for which the concerned candidates may be invited.
(d) The admission on the basis of above rules will be made only among the candidates who have given their option for the Law Centre to which the admission is to be made.
(v) The intake of 2310 is strictly maintained.
(vi) Subject to the other provisions of the prospectus, all admissions,
except that of foreign nationals covered under Rule
(ii) above, are made strictly according to the merit in the LLB Entrance Test keeping in view the preference of the Law Centre given by the candidates for admission.
Admission of Foreign Nationals 1. The general rules of admission are not applicable to foreign nationals sponsored by the Government of India. 2. The general rules are also not applicable to foreign nationals with foreign qualifications which have been recognised as sufficient by tl1e Equivalence Committee of the Academic Council of the University of Delhi. 3. The admission of foreign nationals will be made through the Foreign Students' Advisor, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, Delhi 110007. No application from foreign nationals is entertained directly. 4. Sri Lankan students seeking admission should apply through the High Commission of Sri Lanka in India. 5. No application for admission from any applicant from Pakistan shall be entertained unless his/her application has been duly forwarded and recommended by the Government of India.
Eligibility: Only those candidates are eligible to be admitted to LLB course and appear in the LLB Entrance Test who fulfil the following requirements regarding educational qualification and age: (i) All candidates having a Graduate/ Post-Graduate degree from the University of Delhi or any other Indian or foreign university recognised by the University of Delhi with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade point in the aggregate in either of them. (ii) The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled tribe with Graduate/Post-Graduate degree from the University of, Delhi or any other Indian or foreign university recognised by the University of Delhi. (iii) CW /PH Candidates: Graduate / Post - Graduate Degree with 45 % marks.
(3) Test of Entrance Date: June.
Entrance Test 1. The LLB Entrance Test is held in Delhi during June.
2. The Test Paper consists of one question paper containing objective type multiple choice questions relating to Language Comprehension, Analytical Abilities, Legal Awareness, Aptitude and General Intelligence.
3. The instructions to candidates and sample of the Test questions is given along with the prospectus which may be obtained during May / June from Convenor, Admission Committee, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Delhi 110007 by paying cash or by sending Bank Draft of requisite charges in favour of Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, payable at Delhi. Last date: June. Entrance test: June. The University also also conducts a separate Entrance Test for admission to Master Of Laws (LLM) degree to Graduates in Law. Duration: (1) LLM Two-Year (Four-Terms) Course: This is whole-time course only for those who are not in employment or engaged in any trade, profession, business or occupation. . (2) LLM Three-Year (Six Terms) Course: This course is meant for all including those who are employed or otherwise engaged in any trade, profession, business or occupation.
(3) LL.M Admissions Intake ( subject to change) (i) The intake in LL.M First year course is approximately 65 (two year course 30 and three-year course 35). Out of this, 15% and 7.5% seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to SC/ST respectively. The seats reserved for SC/ST candidates are interchangeable subject to non-availability of the candidates in the respective categories and shall be offered to general candidates in case SC/ST candidates are not available. (ii) There is no reservation of seats for candidates in any other category. (iii) The intake of 30 and 35 is strictly maintained. (iv) Admissions are made strictly according to the merit in the LL.M. Entrance Test keeping in view the choice of the course given by the candidates for admission.
Eligibility: Only those candidates are eligible to be admitted to LL.M course and appear in the LL.M. Entrance Test who fulfil the following requirements regarding educational qualifications and age:
(a) (i) All candidates having a three-year,/ five-year LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi or any other Indian or foreign university recognised as equivalent by the University of Delhi with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade point in the aggregate. (ii) The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe having a three-year/ five-year LL.B. Degree from the University of Delhi or any other Indian or foreign university recognised as equivalent by the University of Delhi with at least 45% marks or equivalent grade point in the aggregate.
Entrance Test for LL.M. (1) The LL.M. Entrance Test is held at the Faculty of Law, Chhatra Marg, University of Delhi, Delhi 110007 during June. (2) The test paper includes question of descriptive type as well as objective type with multiple choice in seven areas: Indian Constitutional Law; Jurisprudence; Law of Contracts (General Principles); Law of Torts; Indian Penal Code; Public International Law (Law of Peace) and Law of marriage and Divorce. (3) The selected candidates may also be required to appear for a viva voce examination. (4) The instructions to candidates are given along with the prospectus.
Last date: May. Entrance test: June. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.): Subject to the general guidance of the Academic Council, research in the University leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is organised by Boards of Research Studies (Law). Fee structure
Studying at faculty of law (All three center) is cheap.Total fees is around 6 thousand annually as given in 2010 prospectus.Hostel facility is only for LLM students and so LLB students should make their own arrangement.There are 12 hostels but all are devoted to PG and research students.Getting admission in Hostel is far more difficult then getting admission in college.
Infrastructure
Hostels
There are twelve hostels for male and female students who are pursuing full-time courses in the University. These are: Gwyer Hall, International Students House, Jubilee hall, Mansarovar Hostel, Post-Graduate Men's Hostel, University Hostel for Women, Meghdoot Hostel, D. S. Kothari, V. K. R. V. Rao Hostel, International Students House for Women, North East Students House and W.U.S. University Hostel. However, hostel facilities will be available only to Campus Law Centre and LL.M. 2 year course students as per rules and procedure prescribed from time to time by the University and the hostel authorities about which information can be obtained directly from the provost of the concerned hostels.

The faculty of Law library consists of a number of computers with internet access as well as access to all legal portals such as manupatra, SCC online, westlaw etc. It is an extremely big, well spaced out and well equipped environment.
