History

Amity Law School Delhi was founded under the aegis of the Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) in 1999. It is affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University of Delhi and has been approved by the Bar Council of India.

Facts & Figures

The Law School aims to provide excellence in legal education and produce quality lawyers in accordance with the Advocates Act, 1961. Students enrolled in the 5-year LLB Honours programme are fully equipped with the required theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the field of law to become full-fledged responsible members of the legal profession. The Law School has rapidly scaled the ladder of success and has been ranked among the top ten law schools in India for five years in a row (2006-2010)

Admissions

Admissions are conducted through a Combined Entrance Test, held by GGS Indraprastha University in May every year. The Entrance test has the following subjects:

   * English comprehension
   * Current Affairs/General Knowledge
   * Legal Awareness
   * Reasoning and Analytical Ability

Past year papers may be obtained from the University upon payment for the same.

Prospective students should have passed, with at least 50% marks in aggregate with English as a compulsory subject in any of the following examinations:-

i) Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) ii) An examination recognized as equivalent to the Senior School Certificates Examination of the CBSE.

The Candidate should be below 21 years of age on 1st August.

Application process and reservations

Applications may be made online at the University website or by purchasing an admission brochure from the same. Please refer to www.ipu.ac.in for more information on applications.

State/University Reservation policies apply for a maximum of 10% seats. thirty (30)seats are reserved for admission through the management quota, the candidates for which are selected ONLY from within the merit list.

Infrastructure

Facilities

The law school also has an auditoruium with 200 plus capacity within walking distance,a basketball court, football and cricket field, a gymnasium and an olympic size swimming pool on campus,which is shared with Amity University.

Many canteen serves Indian and continental snacks throughout the day. The law school also provides hostel facilities to many out station students.

Library and Reading Room

The law school has a spacious,automated library, with more than 15000 volumes covering more than 1100 titles and 70 journals and periodicals. It has been regularly subscribing to 51 journals and law reports relevant to the course curriculum and 19 weeklies and magazines and 8 newspapers. There is also provision for online research, both legal and non-legal through subscriptions to relevant databases.

IT Infrastructure

The law school has a fully equipped computer center, with more than 50 networked, internet enabled workstations. Scanning and printing facilities are also available to students. Furthermore, the campus is Wi-Fi enabled, giving students the freedom to carry on research and presentations anywhere on campus through their laptops.

Extra Curricular Activities

Mooting

In order to become a successful lawyer it is essential for a student to know how to apply the law he has learnt to a fact situation and to have awareness of the rules and the etiquettes of the Court. Moot Court competitions are like the laboratories of law schools where theoretical knowledge is tested in real life situations. Realizing this, the Amity Law School has been facilitating continuous training to the students to participate in Moot Court competitions organized by various universities and law schools in and outside Delhi. The School has also been hosting a number of moot court competitions to test the mettle of the future lawyers of the country. The school has an impressive record of achievements in moot court activities. Some of these achievements are:

• All Delhi Moot Court Competition organized by the GGS IP University (2001-02): Best Team, Best Mooter and Best Memorial
• A competition organized by Campus Law Centre, Delhi (2002-03): Best Team
• University Law College, Bangalore (2003-04): Best Gentleman Advocate, the 2nd prize for the Best Performance and the 2nd Best Memorial.
• Government Law College, Mumbai(2003-04): 2nd Best Performance prize.
• All Delhi Moot Court Competition organized by Law Centre-I of the Delhi University (2003-04): Best Performance prize.
• Won the national round of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition and represented India at the World Finals at the Stetson University College of Law at Florida, USA.
• Declared qualified at the Indian national rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition held at Army Institute of Law, Mohali to represent India at the international rounds of the Philip C. August 2006 – July 2007

   Won the 1st prize for the Best Team & 1st prize for the Best Speaker in the Raj Anand Intellectual Property Moot Court Competition organized by Anand & Anand Advocates, Delhi. Mr. Shaunak Kashyap won the award for the Best Speaker.
   Won 1st prize for the Best Budding Lawyer in the Moot Court Competition organized by the New Law College, Bharti Vidyapeeth University, Pune in January 2007. Mr. Brijesh Chaudhary won the Best Budding Lawyer award.
   Won the 1st prize for the Best Researcher in the K. C. Law National Moot Court Competition, Mumbai.
   Won the 2nd prize for the Best Team in the 3rd Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial National Tax Moot Court Competition 2006 organized by Government Law College, Mumbai.
   Won the Spirit of Surana Award for overall excellence in the Moot in the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition-2006 organized by Surana & Surana International. 

August 2007 onwards

   Won the 1st prize for the Best Team in the North India National Rounds of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition to be held in Washington D.C. Ms. Deeksha Sharma was declared the best speaker and was awarded full scholarship for her post graduate studies in the Singapore Law University. The scholarship includes full fees, boarding and lodging expenses, return air fare and stipend.
   Won the 1st prize in the National Quiz Competition & 2nd prize in the National Client Competition in the Annual Law Fest of Baroda School of Legal Studies, Vadodra in October 2007.
   Won the 1st prize for Best Researcher & 2nd prize for Best Speaker in the K. C. Law College Moot Court Competition held in January 2008.
   Won 2nd prize for the Best Team in the M. P. Law College 8th National Moot Court Competition.
   Won 2nd prize for the Best Team in the Shivaji University Moot Court Competition held in October 2007.
   Won the 1st prize for the Best Memorial in the 1st NALSAR Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition 2008. 

Amity National Moot Court Competitions

Since 2002 Amity Law School has been hosting annually National level moot court competitions in which students from reputed law schools/colleges/universities have been participating. We have been receiving a large number of nominations from various institutions all over India for participation in the competition. The competitions are being judged by Hon’ble sitting Judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court as well as eminent practising advocates, judicial officers and Professors of Law.

Cultural Activities

Our students have been participating in the cultural festivals organized by various law schools/ colleges/universities including Amity Business School (Afreen), Institute of Technology Banaras Hindu University, GGS IP University (Anugoonj), K.L.E. Society's B.V. Bellad Law College, Belgaum, Maitreyi College (University of Delhi), Amity Mass Communication (Big Picture 2006), IITM, Guru Teg Bahadur Institute of Technology and have won a number of prizes in Choreography, Arm Wrestling and Biggest Liar Contest, Business Quiz, Vocal Music, Drawing, Cartooning and Dumb Charades, Self-written Satirical Street Play, English Creative Writing, Clay Modeling, Talk-it-out (Group Discussion) and Mockabulary Quiz and etc.

Research Papers

   Won 2nd prize for the Best Research Paper in the Paper Presentation Competition on Ensuring Social Security in a Globalized Era: Role of Corporate & Legal World organized by ISIL and Legal Assistance Forum on November 16, 2007.
   Won 1st prize for the Best Research Paper on Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements and International Tax Reforms organized by the Department of Management Studies, Jalgaon on January 18, 2008. 

Lok Adalat

As a part of the practical training in legal education, the students are being deputed regularly to participate in the Lok Adalat programmes organized by the Delhi Legal Services Authority, Patiala House Court, New Delhi. The students are also making court visits interviewing clients and lawyers during the vacation.

Seminars

The Law School has also been organizing a number of seminars on contemporary legal issues. Some of the recent ones are:

   Seminar on ADR (Alternate Dispute Resolution) to ODR (Online Dispute Resolution).
   Seminar on Law and Technology.
   Workshop on WTO: Challenges and Opportunities.
   Workshop on Jurisprudence by Prof. Upendra Baxi.
   Law Day Seminar on “Media, Sting Operation and Privacy Law – The Regulatory Dilemma”.
