SFLC.in is organizing the second in a series of consultations on hateful and harassing speech online on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 02:30 to 04:30 PM at Conference Room-1,  India International Centre, New Delhi. This consultation will bring together representatives from relevant stakeholder groups including Government, industry, civil society, academia, and the user-community at a roundtable discussion to conceptualize effective means to tackle forms of online expression that threaten the Internet’s role as an enabler of free speech and expression.

Our previous roundtable on the topic (summary report available here) had highlighted several sub-themes relevant for future discussions, such as the role of online intermediaries in combating hateful and harassing speech, effective implementation of existing laws, capacity building for law enforcement functionaries, and sensitization of the Internet’s user-community. At the upcoming roundtable, we hope to carry this dialogue forward with added emphasis on concrete responses at the state and non-state levels.

To facilitate open exchange of ideas, the discussion will be held under the Chatham House Rule. If you wish to participate, please write to .
