Supreme Court has on 22 February clarified its 5 August 2015 order wherein it had granted three months time to Principal Judge, City Civil & Sessions Court, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to complete the trial and pronounce the judgment in the 2002- Gulbarga society massacre case pending before him.

It was pointed out before the court that its 5 August 2015 order did not not refer to certain previous orders by which such pronouncement had been stayed and that the order ought to be taken to have been passed in modification of all previous orders passed by SC to the contrary thereby clearing the decks for pronouncement of the judgment in the case, trial whereof stands concluded.

On such a submission, with no objection of ASG Tushar Mehta, the bench comprising of Chief Justice of India TS Thakur and Justice UU Lalit passed the order:

We accordingly make it clear that learned Principal Judge, City Civil & Sessions Court, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, shall be free to pronounce the judgment in the case pending before him and our Order dated 5th August, 2015 understood to be in modification of all previous orders that may have restrained the said court from proceedings with the matter. Time for pronouncement of the judgment by learned Principal Judge, City Civil & Sessions Court, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is extended by three months from today.
