Mishi Choudhary, in an interview with Business Standard, published on 3rd October, 2016 talks about the lack of privacy, data protection and the impediment it causes thereto in light of the government’s ambitious Digital India initiative, and the recent case in the Delhi High Court with respect to the change in WhatsApp’s privacy policy. She explains the importance of privacy and data protection in the digital economy as without clear legal frameworks in place, collection of data by corporates can turn into a “honeypot where troves of data is collected and sold for the ‘benign’ purposes of advertising.”
