Law Schools are like Mobile Phone Brands, seriously!!

 Email  Facebook  Tweet  Linked-in

Law schools in India can be compared to mobile phone brands, seriously. There is a huge competition between them. Every schools claims to be the best and efficient. Let’s have a look at some Indian Law Schools and their Equivalent mobile phone brands.

For this post assume

1. Operating system = General Reputation Amongst other law schools.

2. Looks and user interface = Moot Court performance.

3. Battery life / Warranty Period = Avg. IQ and efficiency level of student.

4. Dual SIM – State and woman reservation

5.  Speaker and Sound quality – Infrastructure.

6. Internet Speed – Placements and International Exposure.

7. Price- Overall Rank.

  • NLSIU Bangalore - It’s Nokia, the market leader however now haunted by other brands. Its Symbian operating system is going down. NUJS and NALSAR never leave an opportunity to tease and taunt it. They offer everything and that too at lower price!. But foreign placement, scholarships suggest that internet speed is quite high. Since as per recent U.N report access to internet is a human right, so many people still want Nokia. As per the looks and user interface its kinda lacking. A phone menu of 2000 Rs phone and 20000 Rs phone is all same, and looks are quite monotonous. However it’s durable and has a long battery life. Students of NLS are quite serious about attending classes and they are quite intellectually sound. Resale value is quite good. It doesn’t come with a dual SIM. The speaker and sound quality, well its clear but not loud. So infrastructure doesn’t matter much if it server the purpose. The heart of the matter is that it still leads the market, people trust Nokia (NLS) and it has its own class.
  • NALSAR Hyderabad It’s the Samsung of the law market. It’s cheaper than Nokia but offers the same and even more features. Battery life might not be so good but warranty and repair services are good. Students are NALSAR are very hard working and efficient. Durable thoda Kam hai but its improving. Looks are highly impressive and user interface is easy. Speaker are quite loud, the campus of NALSAR is called Justice City and its beautiful. The Android operating system is just awesome these days, tons of free applications to download. Internet speed is good but browser is confusing.
  • NUJS Kolkata - If you don’t have an i phone, You don’t have an i Phone. NUJS is a second hand I phone. There is a conflict in Price as it varies. However the dealer claims that it’s just brand new and perfect. NUJS faculty is the best in India and some of them are from Oxford. Looks are great but there is only one model. After being quarter finalist is Jessups 2011 and winning the Vis Vienna Moot one can’t argue over the looks (mooting). Speakers well quite small but serves the purpose as sound is crystal clear in earphones. Students of NUJS are talented and innovative (www.lawctopus.com) just as second hand i Phone has a good battery backup and less charging time.
  • NLU Delhi – Its the Mircomax of the market, ( neeche se aayya aur upar walon ki le li, “POSITION” ). When it was launched in 2008 the other brands thought it’s just an Indian made Chinese quality phone but it now bullies everyone. Dashing and superb looks, loud speakers and many innovative features, Jaw dropping prices what else you need? Although there is an exception of dual SIM feature. Its gets angry when compared to other Indian local brands such as G-5, lemon, LAVA etc. NLU Delhi well the whole of its reputation is only because of moot courts rest its unknown as of now. Internet (Foreign Placements and International Exposure) is not functional now but I am sure company has some good plans. It’s perfect for Indian Legal market. It’s cheap its young and a good choice.
  • NLU Jodhpur – It’s like cheap models of Nokia. Long battery life, durable, efficient doesn’t come with a dual SIM feature, only FM radio. Because of its low price, its lacks with luxury features. 3G nahi hai but GPRS theek thak chal jata hai. You can check fb and gmail only.
  • NLIU Bhopal - There are dual SIM phone but isme 4-5 SIM lag jate hain. NLIU is the Sony Ericson !! Too many speakers but average quality and poor battery life. The brand is going down and down. The looks, well it pleases you in the beginning ( NLIU dominated the MPL 2 in beginning ) but later fades away.
  • GNLU Gandhinagar - It’s the best dual SIM phone in market after all Amarchand Mangaldas recruited maximum students from GNLU. Its other brands like G-5, Lemon, Wincom etc but not (Lava mobiles). Battery ka koi bharosa nahi. Students of GNLU are hardworking but lack little in basic IQ which make them less efficient. Its said that 10 students of GNLU are equal to 1 student of NLS. I heard that their VIS team had 16 members, eight each for Vienna and Hong Kong !!! . Although overall looks are good.
  • Symbiosis Law School – Its Motorola. One of the first phones in India were launched by Motorola. Now the company no more conducts business in India. Suddenly all phones of Motorola disappeared from stores. That’s happening to Symbiosis Law School. It came with with a new product , SLS Noida. It’s like re-entry in market.
  • HNLU Raipur - Videocon Mobiles. The company got screwed up in between( The strikes because of poor VC ). Then they launched mobile phones and now they have entered mobile services sector which is good 25p/sec. It’s doing well and has potential.
  • RMLNLU Lucknow - LG, life is good. It started off well then lost all its charm. The phone comes with BIG speakers along with woofers. It offers super dual SIM, thanks to Mayawati. Boring looks with poor user interface. How there are exceptions to this. Internet does't work but there are plans . However battery life and warranty is OK.
  • RGNUL Patiala - Its a homemade phone (ghar pe hi bana liya) . It only has basic features, it’s a black and white phone with a flap. There is no internet feature. Speakers, well, external hain ( The University is currently functioning in two campuses. Hostels are in new campus and administrative, academic blocks are in old campus which is a heritage building). The keypad is in foreign language hard to understand. This is what the new curriculum suggests http://www.rgnul.ac.in/undergraduate_course_description.htm, It looks like a blue print of a factory or a PERIODIC table !!! . Eco 1, major, minor, corporate law 3 . It’s to scare the students.  Price is on request ! Looks are good , after all its custom made. The students of RGNUL are hardworking and will prove their mettle after all the company got a new CEO who is damn good.
  • NUALS Kochi - LAVA mobiles. NUALS has a fluctuating personality. Its hard to judge whether it is actually good or bad. The looks are good (Stetson moot). The internet at least works. Regarding battery and warranty data is unavailable.
  • CNLU Patna – These are phones of , BPL, Onida, T series. When these brands where launched consumers thought, ( arre itni badi company hai , chalegi) but it was a bummer. They were no buyers and the ones who brought it, ( apne sar pe maar rahe hai)
  • Faculty of Law Delhi University - Once considered the most premier institutions of legal studies is now a second hand nokia phone, has a good resale value.

The above analogy can be explained properly with a mic in hand, although i tried. Please don't start fighting here. The post is also on my blog, i just made it recently its http://patialapen.blogspot.com/2011/06/law-schools-are-like-mobile-phone.html Any personal comments can be mailed to
