Small, mystery bomb explodes outside Delhi HC

A low-intensity explosive blast shook the Delhi High Court premises’ car park yesterday.

An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated yesterday at Gate number 7 parking lot outside the lawyer’s canteen of the Delhi High Court yesterday (25 May) causing damage to three cars but no human casualties.

Reported to have exploded only partially because of malfunctioning caused due to heat, the blast occurred at 1:20pm outside the court complex near the car of advocate Rajat Jain.

“It is an open access area and anyone can come here. The lawyer who owned the car had nothing to do with the blast. Jain parked his car around 10am and then left for the court. The car suffered minor damages,” Express News quoted Delhi’s special commissioner of police Dharmendra Kumar.

Some of the Delhi High Court’s judges have called for a security review on the court premises as Delhi High Court Bar Association’s secretary D K Sharma told reporters that the intentional planting of the bag reeked of conspiracy.

So far no suspects or motives have been identified.
