Madras-based Additional solicitor general (ASG) G Rajagopalan today approached the Madras high court to order the Bar Council of India (BCI), to dissolve the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry bar council, which had not effectively disciplined its members, reported The Hindu, following the BCI having suspended 15 advocates accused of violence.
A bench of chief justice SK Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam refused to pass directions yet in Rajagopalan’s plea to resist a strike called by local lawyers.
The ASG said: “Five members of the State Bar Council has participated in the Trichy meeting organised on Sunday by Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Advocates Federation in which boycott call was given. I can name the five members from the picture carried in the news paper. The court should pass a direction to BCI to suspend all the five members who supported the boycott call.”
