Senior advocate Arvind Nigam won temporary relief for Dushyant Dave who was to face disciplinary proceedings before the Gujarat bar council (SBC) for his alleged remarks before the Supreme Court in the judge BH Loya death case, reported PTI and others.

20 months after Justice Rajiv Shakdher had been transferred from the Delhi high court to the Madras high court despite protests from senior counsel at losing Shakdher, he is now coming back to Delhi.

Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju, who had in January sort-of announced he would leave Facebook and its ‘stupid and arrogant’ abusing masses behind, came back again in earnest this month with a flood of Facebook and blog posts.

The Supreme Court collegium is learnt to have stood by its decision to transfer Delhi HC judge Rajiv Shakdher after the law ministry sent back his case for reconsideration, said several persons aware of the outcome. The law ministry had asked for a review after lawyers protested against Shakdher’s transfer.

As first reported by Legally India on 24 February, several senior counsel had written to the Supreme Court collegium to reverse its order, in light of the respect he enjoyed at the bar.

The ET wrote in its report that five senior counsel had protested in writing about the transfer because “they objected to his being transferred along with [Madras high court Justice CS] Karnan, whose case was regarded in a different light”.

Protesting the transfer order of Delhi high court justice Rajiv Shakdher to the Madras high court, prominent senior advocates in Delhi have written to the Supreme Court collegium requesting it to reverse the order.

The Supreme Court collegium has transferred four Delhi high court judges to other high courts.
