Amarchand has emerged as the most aggressive Indian early recruiter hiring 36 fourth-year law students across 10 colleges.
NLSIU Bangalore placed 24 out of 80 fourth year students on 20 April 2013 including 11 pre-placement offers(PPOs). Two independent offers from McKinsey & Co were made in addition to those.
A total of 21 ‘day zero’ campus offers to start work in 2014 came from law firms Luthra & Luthra (8 campus offers), Trilegal (5), Amarchand Mangaldas (4), AZB & Partners (2), and Khaitan & Co (2), according to legal website Bar & Bench, with AZB and Khaitan having recruited entirely through PPOs.
A total of 50 students who had subscribed to the college placement process. Students have also secured three London internships each with Allen & Overy and Herbert Smith Freehills. NLSIU’s RCC has not been reachable for comment by Legally India.
NLU Jodhpur’s day zero was four days before NlSIU’s on 16 April, placing 14 students.

NLSIU Bangalore alum Sidharth Chauhan, who was dismissed from his temporary faculty position at the law school last month, wrote an open letter to the NLSIU community on Friday alleging that his dismissal was “a warning meant to discourage other members of the faculty and administrative staff from asking difficult questions”.

The BCI’s chairman Manan Kumar Mishra felicitated the colleges in his inaugural speech at the centenary celebrations of the regulator held on 16 and 17 February at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi.
ILS Pune principal Vaijayanti Joshi, who is also secretary to the Indian Law Society, told Legally India that the felicitation was “in special recognition of their outstanding services to legal education”.
Joshi said: “The [BCI] chairman in his address to the Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India on the dias at Vigyan Bhavan, said that in addition to NLS Bangalore, there are other institutes which have done well, out of the 900 law colleges in India.”

A person close to the BCI confirmed the shortlist and explained that it was decided by the chairman and the legal education committee after taking into account the colleges' performance over the past few years.
Mishra did not return calls for comment.
Update: Mishra, commenting to Bar & Bench on 21 February, said that Amity Law School Delhi had also been facilitated, and that 15 further private colleges would receive awards in the coming year. "“It is the decision of the BCI based on the performances of the colleges," he said. “Some of the national law schools are doing well. National law schools get huge impetus from the state government. So apart from these, we have felicitated some private institutions which have been contributing to legal education
Exclusive: NLSIU Bangalore has launched a host of new construction in its academic block, hostels, and basketball courts while NLU Delhi has decided to renegotiate the pay of its foreign-educated faculty, after both law schools were sanctioned close to Rs 8 crore by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in November 2012.
A similar grant was also extended by the UGC to the other 12 national law schools (NLU) late last year under the eleventh five-year plan, after their vice chancellors (VC) lobbied aggressively against excluding the law schools from central funding.

NLSIU Bangalore authorities yesterday issued a warning to students’ parents that they would not tolerate any resistance or protests from students against the newly-imposed 9pm curfew that had been instated on campus on 27 November.
Rajasthan’s high court (HC) chief justice of two years and former NLSIU Bangalore general council chairman Arun Mishra was appointed chief justice of the Calcutta HC. Kerala HC got three new permanent judges, and Karnataka HC got one new permanent judge also.
57-year-old Mishra practised as an advocate from 1978 to 1999, in which year he was appointed an additional judge of Madhya Pradesh HC. He was appointed a permanent judge of the court in 2001.
He was transferred to Rajasthan HC in September 2010, and in November he became the chief justice.
Kerala HC’s additional judges NK Balakrishnan, V Chitambareh, and AM Shaffique were made permanent judges of the court. Karnataka HC’s additional judge Arvind Kumar became a permanent judge of the court. [Netindian]
