“The Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) on Thursday set aside an order of fair trade regulator Competition Commission of India (CCI) in a case of alleged abuse of dominant position and anti-competitive practices by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and its Indian arm. Dismissing the CCI findings, Compat ordered a fresh probe in the matter,” reported Mint.

The Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) has set aside Rs 64 crores of fines ordered by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against Sanofi Pasteur India and GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical, which the CCI had found cartellised the market for meningococcal vaccines, which are procured by the Government of India for vaccinating Hajj pilgrims.

A Supreme Court bench of justices Ranjana Prakash Desai and NV Ramana told real estate developer DLF that it should deposit with the court the entire penalty of Rs 630 crore that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had imposed on it in 2011, pending the outcome of its appeal against the Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) order of May of this year.

DLF should pay Rs 50 crore within three weeks, Rs 580 crore within three months, and should undertake to pay another Rs 170 crore in interest if its apex court appeal should fail, reported IANS. DLF was fined for “highly abusive” apartment buyers agreements in several of its developments.
