“Domestic air-conditioning major Voltas today said it has formed an equal joint venture with Turkish company Ardutch BV to introduce the Beko brand of home appliances in the Indian market. The joint venture will have an equity capital of USD 100 million and will set up a manufacturing plant in the country, it said in a statement,” reported DNA.

Talwar Thakore & Associates (TT&A), advised the AXA Group in the increase of its equity stake from 26 per cent to 49 per cent in its Indian life and general insurance joint ventures with the Bharti group member Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company Limited and Bharti AXA General Insurance Company Limited, which were advised by AZB & Partners in Delhi.

The TT&A team included partner Kunal Thakore and associate Deepa Christopher, while executive chairman Vinod Dhall and associate Sonam Mathur advised on competition law aspects.

AZB’s team included partners Gautam Saha and Sachin Mehta.

AXA will invest another Rs 1,290 crore in both joint venture companies, reported Mint.

AXA is the first foreign insurer to procure all regulatory approvals (from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India and the Competition Commission of India) and complete the increase of its stake in its Indian joint ventures following the increase in the foreign investment permitted in the insurance sector.

NDTV reported that vice president (legal) of Reliance Industries and former Talwar Thakore Associates managing associate Janhavi Gadkar had allegedly killed two persons in a taxi while driving her Audi Q3 drunk in Mumbai last night on the wrong side of a major freeway.

The 35 year old lawyer has been arrested by police, after killing Mohd Salim Saboowala, 50, and the taxi’s driver Mohd Hussain Sayaed, 57. Three passengers survived the crash which mangled the taxi and caused heavy damage to the Audi.

She has been booked with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash driving, said the police, relying on video evidence shot minutes before the crash.

She had worked at TTA between 2007 and 2013, according to her Linked in profile.

Linklaters and Talwar Thakore Associates (TTA) advised the lending and underwriting banks on Tata Steel UK Holdings, which took a term loan and revolving credit facilities of $3.05bn to refinance its bank debt.

Linklaters London partner Narayan Iyer, who had rejoined Linklaters a year ago from TTA, and Singapore partner Philip Badge, and capital markets partner Kevin Wong and TTA partner Rahul Gulati acted for the banks.

JSA and Slaughter & May advised Tata.

The new financing structure consists of a five-year loan of a €370 million, a six-year revolving credit facility for working capital of £700 million and a seven-year loan of €1.8 billion, with more favourable terms and pricing relative to the earlier debt, reported Mint.
