Byju calls on SAM for giant $540m fundraise from Trilegal, AZB clients Naspers, CP

“Byju’s raises $540 million from Naspers and CPPIB: Education startup Byju’s has raised $540 million in a round led by Naspers, with participation from Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB),” reported Medianama.

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co advised Byju (Think and Learn Pvt. Ltd) led by a team of partner Amit Khansaheb; partner Roshan Thomas; principal associate Prateek Lala; associate Siddharth Madhavan.

Trilegal advised Naspers led by a team including Naspers was advised by Trilegal led by partner Yogesh Singh, counsel Nitika Chhabra, senior associate Ramya Suresh and associate Deepika Yadav; Trilegal tax partner Samsuddha Majumdar, senior associate Komal Dani and associate Manan Jain on taxation aspects; technology partner Nikhil Narendran and associate Jishnu Sanyal advised on IT/IPR aspects.

Gunderson Dettmer partner Jonathan C Pentzien and associates Laura E Hansell and Sean G Traynor also advised Naspers.

AZB & Partners advised the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), with a team led by partners Darshika Kothari and Arvind Ramesh and senior associates Medha Marathe and Palak Khandelwal.

In 2017, Byju had instructed ALMT Legal to assist it on an acquisition.
