Khaitan, Clifford Chance act on Intermediate’s maiden Asia investment, buying USD 1 billion of StanChart PE portfolio

“StanChart sells PE portfolio for $1 billion to Intermediate’s arm: The portfolio comprises private equity investments in companies across Southeast Asia, India, China and South Korea,” reported Mint.

This is US-based Intermediate Capital Group’s first investment in Asia, made via its private equity arm ICG Strategic Equity. It is purchasing Standard Chartered’s private equity assets for $1 billion, according to ICG, which includes 35 companies in South-East Asia, India, China, South Korea, the Middle East and Africa.

Khaitan & Co acted for ICG Strategic Equity Advisors LLC with a deal team comprised of partner Siddharth Shah, counsel Tarunya Krishnan, principal associate Shantanu Gupta, associate Gautam Suseel and associate Srikanth Mantravadi.

UK-international firm Clifford Chance was the global transaction counsel for ICG Strategic Equity Advisors LLC, co-led by partner Andrew Whan (Hong Kong) and counsel Tom Lin (Singapore).

Primary jurisdiction of deal: Asia.
