According to a press release from the Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), yesterday was “an important day for the firm” after it has announced the “newly formed CAM governance structure for the practice areas, the constitution of various committees” which will be effective immediately and “form the framework that will help us move towards the aspirations we have set for ourselves”.
Cyril Shroff chairs three out of five national practice areas (general corporate, capital markets and dispute resolution), while L Vishwanathan chairs the two finance practice groups (project finance and banking).
All eight regional practice area committees also report to Shroff, which would “advise me and assist me in taking forward the various initiatives on the relevant topics”, Shroff said in the statement.
Three partners will be or have moved from the Mumbai to Delhi offices: projects partner Ramanuj Kumar, tax partner SR Patnaik, and private client partner Rishabh Shroff.
Shroff said in the release:
As the new structures gathers momentum and people grow into the roles they have been assigned, I expect that this will drive further growth in firm.
We had chosen a single leader model with all decision making vested in me as MP. But I was to be supported by a broad based partner group to assist me in the governance of the firm.
The competition practice in the Mumbai region is headed by partner Nisha Uberoi, while the Delhi region’s head is yet to be decided.
The employment practice is headed by partners Rashmi Pradeep and Manishi Pathak in Mumbai and Delhi respectively.
Partner Ipsita Dutta heads up the Mumbai financial regulation practice, while former Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas partner Ranjan Negi heads up the Delhi intellectual property (IP) practice.
The private client practice in Delhi will be headed by partner and Cyril Shroff’s son Rishabh Shroff, who is relocating to the city from Mumbai, while partner Radhika Gaggar will head it in Mumbai.
The real estate practice will have two co-head partners each in Mumbai and Delhi: Sandeep Dave and Namrata Kolar (Mumbai) and Harry Chawla and Gyanendra Kumar (Delhi).
The Mumbai investment funds practice will be headed by partner Ashwath Rao in Mumbai, while SR Patnaik will head the tax practice in Delhi.
Strategy
The firm has also set up 15 internal strategic committees, each of which includes several partners, one or more members from the founding family (Cyril Shroff, Vandana Shroff and their son Rishabh Shroff, daughter Paridhi Adani and daughter-in-law Saloni Shroff, who had married into the family in 2011).
Those committees also include “special invitees from time to time” and “independent members”, including former Boston Consulting Group (BCG) director James Abraham, ex-Slaughter and May partner George Goulding,
Founder of the Pangea3 legal process outsourcing company (LPO) Sanjay Kamlani will be one of the independent members on the firm’s technology strategy committee.
Former Amarchand partner V Umakanth, who is now professor at National University Singapore, is involved in campus and alumni relationships, and the academic council and training committee.
All 15 committees:

2. New graduates Paridhi and Saloni have management roles? Child is the father of man.
3. Yash and Arjun are equivalents no matter that Yash previously led capital markets for the last decade.
4. Gupte who is Naredi's junior will supervise him.
5. Ashwath ( funds), Nisha (competition), Patnaik (tax), Negi (IP) are high risk no alternative exits and so need substitutes in second region. Urgently send me your Cvs.
6. Gauri Rasgotra appeArs more times in this press release than if you Google her!
7. Real estate is very important in CAM : it has more heads than General corporate.
8. The committees only serve to overemphasise the single leader model worsened by family kids being in every committee.
9. This is why India needs foreign law firms.
How's the power situation in Okhla?
Really guys?
Even spell check is not used now? What amazing editing.
time is for removing bureaucratic and committee structure and he is basically creating something which will eventually turn into a committee of coterie... try as much as i can, i cant imagine any positive coming out of it..
No good can ever come from make do committees and elaborate toothless management plans... What CAM should actually look at doing is jeeping its people happy, and from what i hear from my friends, that seems to be the last thing on their minds....
Its time Cyril wakes up and gets a reality check... Or else all the tortoises will move agead while the rabbit is sleeping!!
The first half was about how delegation of power makes people happy. Perfectly executed by CAM, mixed up the new and the old, made the new feel welcome and equal.
The second half was about how to ensure that such delegation does not look like a cover up. The second half also had pointers on how to effectively mask your true intentions!
A lesson to all students, either stick around for the entire class or don't execute based on the parts you were awake for!
Among all the names trotted out I could not find a single Muslim name. 14% of our population and yet none spotted. I am sure CAM is an equal-opportunities employer.
