(Shardul) Amarchand likely to bag Dudhat Pereira founder, ex-Udwadia partner Radhika Pereira in Mumbai

Radhika Pereira, the founding partner of Dudhat Pereira & Associates, is set to join the upcoming Mumbai office of the expected Amarchand Mangaldas post-break-up firm of Shardul Shroff, according to a source with knowledge of the development.

Pereira declined to comment when contacted.

Shroff did not respond to an email seeking comment.

According to a website she contributes to, she was formerly a partner at erstwhile Mumbai firm Udwadia & Udeshi between 2000 and 2005:

After finishing her articles with M/s Mulla & Mulla and Craigie Blunt & Caroe, she did her Post-graduation from Cambridge and Harvard. On returning to India she worked for some time with Arthur Andersen and in the year 1996 she set up Dudhat Pereira & Associates. After a brief break taken to work with an eminent law firm, she was a partner of M/s Udwadia & Udeshi, Solicitors & Advocates until 2005. She restarted Dudhat Pereira & Associates in April 2005.

Radhika has worked on a wide range of transactional work in the areas of project finance for infrastructure projects and development, corporate finance, intellectual property rights related issues and transactions relating to entertainment, information technology and pharmaceutical industry, property laws and real estate transactions, alternate dispute mechanism strategy, legal risk management, private equity, off-shore fund structuring and contractual documentation. Over the years, Radhika has also developed practice in the area of Legal Risk Management which includes advising and structuring compliance, risk management, succession planing and conflict resolution framework for clients.

Ms. Pereira was with Mulla & Mulla, Cragie, Blunt & Caroe, Advocates and Solicitors, Mumbai, Arthur Anderson & Co, Mumbai, and as a Partner in Udwadia & Udeshi, Advocates, Mumbai. She has worked on a wide range of transactional work in the areas of project finance for infrastructure projects and development, intellectual property rights related issues and transactions relating to entertainment, information technology and pharmaceutical industry, property laws and real estate transactions, Alternate dispute mechanism strategy, legal risk management and contractual documentation.

Ms. Pereira has been a Non-Executive Independent Director of Tips industries. since September 5, 2002. She has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Jain Irrigation Systems Limited since December 12, 2005 and Essel Propack Limited since August 4, 2014. She has been an Additional Director of Geodesic Limited since March 2013. She served as an Independent Director of Geodesic Limited from September 30, 2011 to February 2013.

She served as a Director of Indiaco Ventures Ltd since January 2007. Ms. Pereira is the Chairman of Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee at Geodesic Limited. Ms. Pereira is a Graduate of Mumbai University concentrating in science and law, and has an LLM from Cambridge University (England) and Harvard (USA).

Amarchand Mangaldas is currently in the midst of a mediation that is likely to result in a split of the firm by the end of this month. If the break-up goes through, Shardul Shroff would set up a Mumbai office soon to compete with his Mumbai-based brother and current co-managing partner of Amarchand, Cyril Shroff, who will set up in Delhi in turn.

Cyril Shroff's latest hire is likely to be former Religare general counsel (GC) Raghuram Raju, who is currently practising indendently in Delhi, with reports also suggesting former Luthra & Luthra Delhi partner Piyush Mishra, Khaitan & Co Delhi partner Gauri Rasgotra, and Economic Laws Practice (ELP) Delhi partner Kirat Singh Nagra joining.
