Ropes & Gray London reels in NLS ‘00 alum Damodaran as partner

Damodaran roped in from White & Case
Damodaran roped in from White & Case
Former Amarchand & Mangaldas associate and NLSIU Bangalore alum Anand Damodaran joins Ropes & Gray as partner today in London, leaving White & Case where he was a senior associate until last month.

Damodaran’s move follows former White & Case colleague and partner Matthew Judd who started Ropes’ private funds practice in February, while Ropes’ London office was started by former White & Case heavyweights Maurice Allen and Mike Goetz.

Having graduated from NLSIU in 2000, he worked with the corporate and litigation teams of Amarchand, Delhi for a year before going on to pursue his masters in corporate laws at New York University School of Law on an Inlaks scholarship. This was followed by a four-year stint in the private funds practice of Clifford Chance London, until April 2007 when he joined White & Case.

Damodaran worked as a solicitor in the investment funds practice of White & Case, specialising in private equity, real estate, infrastructure and hedge fund formation, establishing co-investment schemes, and structuring carried interest and performance fee arrangements. His experience in supporting hedge funds was enhanced with a seven month secondment in the prime brokerage division at the London branch of Swiss global financial company UBS AG.

In December 2011 Indian qualified lawyer and Damodaran’s immediate junior at NLSIU, Dipen Sabharwal, was promoted to the global partnership at White & Case.
